Memorial Day is a time to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. It’s also a meaningful opportunity for Scouts to continue the tradition of service in their own communities.

As a council, we’ve already achieved 10% of our goal of 250,000 service hours in recognition of the America 250 celebration. While we still have a long road ahead, we know many Scouts and Scouting units have not yet reported their 2026 service hours.

Every project, every act of kindness, and every hour served helps tell the story of Scouting’s impact. Help us showcase the difference Scouts are making by logging your service hours in Scoutbook today!

Sunday Service Update: It was a slower week for reported service hours, but we know there are still many great projects and acts of service waiting to be logged! Every hour makes a difference and helps showcase the incredible impact our Scouts are making throughout the community.

Help us grow our total today by submitting your service hours in Scoutbook. Whether your unit participated in a cleanup project, food drive, community event, or another service opportunity, we want to make sure those efforts are counted. Now is the perfect time to upload any of your 2026 service projects.

For Sergio, Scouting has already become a source of adventure, friendship, and outdoor fun at an early age. As one of our 2026 Longhorn Council Scout Ambassadors, Sergio is making the most of every Cub Scout experience, and we are excited to follow along on his journey throughout the year on Facebook and Instagram.

Sergio is a first grader and a member of Cub Scout Pack 928 in Southlake, Texas. He joined the pack as a Kindergartener and had an incredible time as a Lion Scout, and that excitement has continued during his year as a Tiger Scout.

Some of Sergio’s favorite Scouting experiences so far have included camping at Camp Tahuaya, attending Day Camp, and spending time fishing outdoors. The pack’s campout at Camp Tahuaya was especially memorable, and Sergio is already excited to return again next year.

Looking ahead, Sergio cannot wait to attend the Pathfinder District’s upcoming Day Camp as a Wolf Scout. He is excited for more outdoor adventures, new activities, and making even more Scouting memories with his friends.

We look forward to seeing all the fun experiences and adventures ahead for Sergio as he continues his Cub Scout journey.

We are excited to introduce one of our 2026 Longhorn Council Scout Ambassadors, John-Michael G. Throughout the year, we will follow John-Michael’s Scouting adventures and share updates across our social media pages.

John-Michael is an active youth leader in Scouting America and currently serves as Senior Patrol Leader for Troop 271 in the Three Rivers District. A Life Scout, he is working toward earning his Eagle Scout rank and has been involved in Scouting since joining as a Tiger Scout.

One of John-Michael’s favorite parts of Scouting is earning merit badges and learning new skills through hands-on experiences. He has earned more than 40 merit badges and hopes to eventually earn every merit badge offered in Scouting America. The Insect Study Merit Badge inspired his Eagle Scout project: creating a monarch way station in Belton featuring roosting trees, host plants for monarch butterflies, and native plants that support pollinators.

John-Michael previously served as a Den Chief for two Cub Scout packs and earned the Den Chief Service Award. In 2025, he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.

He has developed a strong interest in international Scouting and is especially excited to attend the 2027 World Scout Jamboree in Poland. He has participated in programs and events including Jamboree on the Internet, Jamboree on the Air, Messenger of Peace initiatives, Scouts Trash the Trash, and Scouting for Clean Waterways.

In 2025, John-Michael created a tutorial video for Scouting America’s national JOTI resources to help Scouts connect through the ScoutLink Minecraft server.

Outside of Scouting, John-Michael participates in the Eagle Wings Homeschool Band, where he plays saxophone, and recently began learning trumpet while working toward the Bugling Merit Badge.

We are excited to see where Scouting takes John-Michael next. Stay tuned as we continue introducing more of our 2026 Longhorn Council Scout Ambassadors throughout the month!

From campfire cooking to fishing adventures, Katy Rose is already jumping headfirst into the excitement of troop life. As one of our 2026 Longhorn Council Scout Ambassadors, Katy is discovering all the adventures that come with being part of Scouting America, and we are excited to share her journey throughout the year.

Katy is a 5th grader from Killeen who recently crossed over from Cub Scouts into Troop 9192. Since joining the troop, she has been eager to attend meetings, campouts, and every new activity that comes her way.

Katy especially loves camping, cooking, and fishing. During a fishing outing with her den, she quickly became known as the fearless Scout who helped remove fish from the hooks for the rest of the den. Whether she is outdoors learning new skills or helping others, Katy brings excitement and confidence to every adventure.

After attending several troop meetings and campouts already, Katy is especially looking forward to summer camp. With so many exciting activities to choose from, she is having a hard time deciding what she wants to try first.

We cannot wait to see all the adventures ahead for Katy as she continues her Scouting journey with Troop 9192.

John Brown, from Troop 1225 in Flower Mound, celebrated his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on May 4, 2026. For his Eagle Scout project, John planned, organized, and led a Holiday Concert in December of 2025, featuring 35 fellow band members performing festive holiday music for members of the Flower Mound Senior Center. John has completed over 350 hours of community service through Scouting and served in various troop leadership positions. One of John's favorite scouting adventures was kayaking 50 miles at Summit Bechtel Reserve.

Congratulations, John!
