We are excited to introduce one of our 2026 Longhorn Council Scout Ambassadors, John-Michael G. Throughout the year, we will follow John-Michael’s Scouting adventures and share updates across our social media pages.
John-Michael is an active youth leader in Scouting America and currently serves as Senior Patrol Leader for Troop 271 in the Three Rivers District. A Life Scout, he is working toward earning his Eagle Scout rank and has been involved in Scouting since joining as a Tiger Scout.
One of John-Michael’s favorite parts of Scouting is earning merit badges and learning new skills through hands-on experiences. He has earned more than 40 merit badges and hopes to eventually earn every merit badge offered in Scouting America. The Insect Study Merit Badge inspired his Eagle Scout project: creating a monarch way station in Belton featuring roosting trees, host plants for monarch butterflies, and native plants that support pollinators.
John-Michael previously served as a Den Chief for two Cub Scout packs and earned the Den Chief Service Award. In 2025, he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.
He has developed a strong interest in international Scouting and is especially excited to attend the 2027 World Scout Jamboree in Poland. He has participated in programs and events including Jamboree on the Internet, Jamboree on the Air, Messenger of Peace initiatives, Scouts Trash the Trash, and Scouting for Clean Waterways.
In 2025, John-Michael created a tutorial video for Scouting America’s national JOTI resources to help Scouts connect through the ScoutLink Minecraft server.
Outside of Scouting, John-Michael participates in the Eagle Wings Homeschool Band, where he plays saxophone, and recently began learning trumpet while working toward the Bugling Merit Badge.
We are excited to see where Scouting takes John-Michael next. Stay tuned as we continue introducing more of our 2026 Longhorn Council Scout Ambassadors throughout the month!
