The Tidewater School

The Tidewater School Tidewater School is a vibrant community in which children are inspired to learn through hands on work

The Tidewater School was founded in 1986 by educator Nancy Libertini in response to the need for a developmentally appropriate school for young children in Southern Maryland. Tidewater blends its Montessori curriculum with an Adlerian behavior model to help inspire and support children's intellectual, social, and emotional development. We pride ourselves on supporting and connecting both children and families through classes, seminars, and social events.

“Young children do not have to go to school to work. Playtime for them is a time of learning by practice. Every new movement which a little child makes is tried first of all tentatively and then repeated until the first clumsiness is gradually refined to an exact movement. Every plaything he uses is a tool for his work. ”

Our full month continued with a trip for the Upper Elementary students to the DC zoo! Ms. Jesalyn reports "We did get to see the baby elephant and the giant pandas at the zoo yesterday, which were the main priorities of the group. However, I think the Small Mammal House stole the show for everyone- there were so many coos and squeals of delight and calls to 'take a picture!'"
