Tidewater School is a vibrant community in which children are inspired to learn through hands on work

The Tidewater School was founded in 1986 by educator Nancy Libertini in response to the need for a developmentally appropriate school for young children in Southern Maryland. Tidewater blends its Montessori curriculum with an Adlerian behavior model to help inspire and support children's intellectual, social, and emotional development. We pride ourselves on supporting and connecting both children and families through classes, seminars, and social events.

“The children love to do these things [practical life activities] for themselves and they learn to be careful and precise in their movements. This is both education of movement, because there is a refinement of muscular co-ordination when the work is carefully done, and education through movement, because these activities involve judgement and will, self-discipline, and an appreciation of orderliness. ”
