Inspired by her experience in JROTC, one of our Patrol Leaders had an idea: create a visual chain of command for our troop so everyone can better understand how our troop leadership works.

This week, the whole troop jumped in to help decorate name tags and build an org chart that we can use long-term! The goal is simple: help scouts visualize roles, understand who does what, and make it easier for newer scouts to know who to go to with questions, support, and guidance.

We love seeing our scouts take initiative, bring ideas to life, and create tools that make our troop stronger for everyone. Great leadership starts with empowering others.

Two of our scouts are off on a big adventure as they attend National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)!

NYLT is Scouting America’s youth leadership course, designed to help scouts develop skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, planning, and leading others.

We’re proud of these young leaders for investing in themselves, their troop, and their future. We can’t wait to hear about what they learn and see how they bring those new leadership skills back to Troop 314.

What a fantastic Court of Honor! 🎉

This week we celebrated the hard work, growth, and adventures of our Scouts. From rank advancements and merit badge achievements to recognizing our incredible adult volunteers who received district awards, the ceremony was packed with pride.

Our Scouts also shared stories from some of this year’s adventures, including camping trips, canoeing, whitewater rafting, Winteree, pioneering activities, and so much more. Every campout, challenge, and new experience helps build confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships.

We’re proud of everything our Scouts have accomplished and excited for all the adventures ahead. Congratulations to everyone who was recognized!

We recently went whitewater rafting along the Cheat River. Our troop separated into two different trips, which allowed all our scouts the chance to participate, regardless of their skill.

The Narrows offered great Class II and III rapids. The Canyon offered III and IV rapids.

Cheat River Outfitters was gracious enough to let us camp on their riverfront field and even provided us some firewood during our stay!

This week, we traded our usual meeting space for the barn as we worked on our Horsemanship Merit Badge! 🐴

During our visit to a local horse farm, Scouts learned the basics of grooming, safely leading horses, and the importance of proper hoof care. From brushing coats to cleaning hooves, the girls got hands-on experience while learning responsibility, patience, and confidence around these incredible animals.

Lashings aren’t just about tying sticks together—they teach real skills.

Scouts learn how to build useful things like shelters and camp gadgets using simple materials. Along the way, they practice patience, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Most importantly, they gain confidence by creating something with their own hands—and seeing it actually work.

This week we taught fire building skills and safety, held a flag retirement ceremony, and one of our scouts was called out by the Order of the Arrow.

🇺🇸 Did you know we can retire your flags that are no longer in good condition?
