📅 Attendance Awareness Month 🌟
Every day counts...especially in the early years!
Children learn best through consistent routines, hands-on experiences, and meaningful relationships with their teachers and classmates. That's why regular attendance is so important.
Head Start Program Performance Standards and PA Pre K Counts emphasize the importance of regular attendance because missing too many days can make it harder for children to build skills, stay connected to their classroom community, and benefit from all the services the program provides.
Here are a few ways to help your child attend regularly:
✅ Establish a consistent bedtime and morning routine.
✅ Schedule appointments outside of program hours whenever possible.
✅ Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
✅ Let us know if your child will be absent. We're here to support your family!
We understand that illnesses and unexpected situations happen. Our goal isn't perfect attendance. It's partnering with families to help every child have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
💙 At attendance is more than showing up. It's about building a strong foundation for lifelong learning, one day at a time.

🛡️ National Child Identity Theft Day 🛡️
When we think about protecting our children, we often think of bike helmets, car seats, and holding little hands while crossing the street. But there's another way we can help keep them safe...protecting their identity.
Did you know that children can become victims of identity theft, even before they're old enough to use a credit card? Since a child's Social Security number usually isn't monitored, it can sometimes be misused for years before anyone notices.
Here are a few simple ways to help protect your child's identity:
🔒 Keep your child's Social Security card and birth certificate in a secure location.
📄 Only share your child's personal information when it's truly necessary and ask why it's being requested.
📱 Be thoughtful about what you post online; the internet is forever and easily searchable.
📬 Watch for mail addressed to your child that seems unusual, such as credit card offers or bills. These can be signs that something isn't right.
💬 Talk with trusted family members and caregivers about keeping your child's personal information safe, too.
At , we're committed to helping families support children's health, safety, and well-being, both in and out of the classroom. Taking a few simple steps today can help protect your child's future tomorrow.
💙 Knowledge is one of the best ways to keep our children safe.

Behind every Head Start program is a staff member who chose this work because they believe in children.

The teacher who greets each child by name every morning. The family worker who helps a mom find housing so her family can stay together. The bus driver who makes sure a four-year-old gets to school safe. The cook who plates a hot breakfast for a kid who might not have eaten otherwise. They are the reason Head Start works.

People this dedicated deserve to be paid like the professionals they are. A competitive salary is what lets a program keep the skilled, caring staff that children and families count on year after year. That takes strong federal investment.

While we welcome the recently approved funding increase, it won't keep pace with rising costs and give programs the stability they need to serve the children and families in their communities.

You can help! Email your Members of Congress and urge them to support increased funding for Head Start in Fiscal Year 2027. It only takes a minute: https://nhsa.org/take-action/

🗺️ American Adventures Month 🗺

Adventure doesn't always require a suitcase or a plane ticket. Sometimes, the best adventures are waiting just down the road!

This American Adventures Month, challenge your family to become tourists in your own community. Every park, trail, museum, library, farmers market, and historic landmark is an opportunity for children to learn through exploration.

🌳 Here are a few adventure ideas for families with young children:
📚 Visit your local library and let your child pick out books about a state, animal, or place they've never learned about.
🦋 Explore a nearby nature trail and see how many birds, insects, flowers, or animal tracks you can find.
🚜 Stop by a local farm or farmers market and talk about where fruits and vegetables come from.
🏛️ Visit a local museum, historical site, or monument and discover something new about your community's story.
🧺 Pack a picnic and spend time at a park you've never visited before.
📷 Create an "Adventure Journal" by drawing pictures or taking photos of the places you visit throughout the month.
🗺️ Start a family map! Each time you explore somewhere new, place a sticker on a map of your county, state, or the United States to celebrate your family's adventures.

At , we know that every outing, whether it's a walk around the neighborhood or a visit to a local landmark, helps children build language, curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. The world is full of opportunities to ask questions, make discoveries, and create memories together.

❤️ The greatest adventures aren't measured by miles traveled. They're measured by the moments shared.
