😱 Board members of the Weir River Watershed Association were alerted to a giant drift of shredded styrofoam debris on the banks of the Weir River, and quickly mobilized to prevent it from further contaminating the estuary. Check out these before and after photos! (And some “during,” as well 🙂)

If you see stuff like this and can’t clean it yourself, please let us know and we will do our best to get it taken care of! And if you are out there quietly being a nature hero and cleaning stuff up yourself, we’d love to hear about it so we can both understand the extent of the debris in the estuary, and celebrate the many people who help steward this precious resource.

The Weir River Water System is the municipal water system for the Towns of Hingham, Hull and Cohasset.

And then there were two! 😍🐣🐣

Willow and Weir’s second chick made a number of appearances (and food requests) today, despite the heat! 🐟😋

When not feeding them, Willow spent most of the day brooding the chicks to help them thermoregulate, since they can’t do it yet themselves. Since osprey nests tend to be high and exposed, the adults have to remain constantly vigilant against dangerous temperature extremes that can harm their vulnerable chicks. 🥵🥶 Today was for sure on the “🥵” end of the spectrum, with the camera recording nest temperatures up into the 90s.

🚨🐣 WE HAVE CHICKS!!! Weir and Willow’s first chick of 2026 hatched overnight and was first seen at 6:45 AM on June 6th. He or she is being fed a delicious first meal of mackerel.

🎉 Thanks to everyone who played our “hatch-off” contest, and congrats to Hilary Moll, whose guess was closest to the hatch date!

Check out this rare glimpse of the eggs! In heat like we experienced yesterday, the adults will often crouch over the eggs to shade them, rather than sit directly on them to incubate. 🥚🥵

Wondering what the ospreys are doing in this wild wind and rain? Staying snugged down low over those eggs! Can you see the bird flattened down in the nest in the bottom left of the photo?

Hatch date could come soon (there’s still time to get your guesses in!), but I’m glad there aren’t little babies up there in this weather!! 💨🌧️

Willow just spent two and a half days diligently keeping the eggs sheltered amidst constant rain. As of this afternoon, looks like she let Weir know she’d like a break! 😄
