Weir River Watershed Association And to connect with others who care!

We created this page to raise awareness about our shared river — the Weir River — and its watershed, the environmental challenges it faces, and what we can do to become better stewards of it.

🚨🐣 WE HAVE CHICKS!!! Weir and Willow’s first chick of 2026 hatched overnight and was first seen at 6:45 AM on June 6th. He or she is being fed a delicious first meal of mackerel.

🎉 Thanks to everyone who played our “hatch-off” contest, and congrats to Hilary Moll, whose guess was closest to the hatch date!

Check out this rare glimpse of the eggs! In heat like we experienced yesterday, the adults will often crouch over the eggs to shade them, rather than sit directly on them to incubate. 🥚🥵

Wondering what the ospreys are doing in this wild wind and rain? Staying snugged down low over those eggs! Can you see the bird flattened down in the nest in the bottom left of the photo?

Hatch date could come soon (there’s still time to get your guesses in!), but I’m glad there aren’t little babies up there in this weather!! 💨🌧️

Willow just spent two and a half days diligently keeping the eggs sheltered amidst constant rain. As of this afternoon, looks like she let Weir know she’d like a break! 😄

🥚 While female ospreys typically do the majority of the incubation, males do help out with the eggs from time to time.

🪺 When they’re not incubating, both Weir and Willow have been focusing on nest maintenance lately. Once their chicks hatch, they will have much less time to spend fixing up the nest, so they’re trying to make it as good as possible beforehand!

🐣 Want a chance to win an osprey-related prize? Enter our contest to guess the hatch date of the first chick! Link in comments.

I’m doing some eDNA sampling in the Weir River watershed today. To get to my sample site, I had to pass by this adorable goose family. Check out the six fluffy goslings! 🐥💛

I got to my site and was taking samples when I heard the adult geese start honking wildly and take to the water. They sounded really alarmed, and I thought maybe some people had shown up and had gotten too close. I was wrong! Check out the first video to see who had actually shown up! 😱

Curious as to the fate of the goslings? Check out the second video and see how many you can count!

We’re doing a Spring Membership Drive, and there’s never been a better time to join! 🦅💙

For a limited time, when you become a new or renewing member, your donation automatically allows you entry into the 2026 Weir & Willow Osprey Hatch-Off! You’ll get to guess the closest date and time the first chick will hatch, putting you in the running to win a beautiful canvas print of our nesting pair. It’s the perfect incentive: secure the future of our watershed and celebrate our most famous feathered family. Join today, submit your guess, and help us protect the waters they call home!

UPDATE: The eggs have hatched, and we have a winner! Congrats to Hilary Moll! There’s still time to help us achieve our membership goals, however. 🙂
