During our 10th visit to on a trip this summer, our students learned so much from Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village, meeting with teachers, health care workers, house “mamas”, and administrative staff, gaining a deep understanding of how the village runs and works (even at its farm with cows!), embracing the unique aspects of every person and initiative. We delivered collected donations to the newly developed Early Center, where staff's are cared for during the day. Every one was assigned to a , and we enjoyed lunch and dinner with our new friends.

During our service trip to , Azizi Life coordinated a day trip to the rural village of , where our experience the life and of a small village. Out host guided us through hikes fetching necessary water for the village, taught us how to free up our hands by carrying items comfortably on our heads. We learned how to cook using fire and hot stones in the ground, and to strip for woven bracelets and beautiful for sale. We shared a meal that the we helped create, and ended a day of hard service work with singing and dancing games!

Our service trip to wasn't all work! Our and chaperones visited the unique Envision gallery and restaurant. Founded by a volunteer from Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village, this is a frequent alumni destination to show their work and display their talents. We enjoyed amazing , have a great meal, and were entertained by ASYV alum, Jimmy Star, a fabulous popular . Our students danced and some even joined him on stage! After visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial, our service trip student Frey shared thoughts on his deeper understanding of the and its damaging effects. By going to the memorials, seeing the clothing items left behind, actually witnessing the bullet holes and damage left by grenades, he says he learned so much more than could possibly be learned by just reading about the tragedy stateside in . He wonders how the people who committed these crimes feel about now, and wishes he had an understanding of what was going through their minds and their regrets.

Our summer service trip adventure to was extraordinary, and now we're sharing our story in a periodic photo journal here! Seven International from enjoyed the trip of a lifetime, immersed in supporting learning about the culture.

From our founder Mikey Walker: "On our first day, our students acclimated to the village, meeting with , workers, house “mamas”, and administrative staff, gaining a deeper understanding of how the operates, embracing the unique facets of every individual. We delivered our collected donations to Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village's newly developed Center, where staff care for during the day. Each of our students was then assigned to a , and we enjoyed lunch and dinner with our new friends. The bonding had already begun!"

Our summer service trip adventure to was extraordinary, and now we're sharing our story in a photo journal here! Seven International from enjoyed the trip of a lifetime, immersed in supporting learning about the culture.

Student Joseph shared these thoughts: I never thought in a million years I would get to go to . I loved everything about this trip, from getting to know all the families, to forming relationships with the kids. I’ve learned to realize how much I have back home, something I could have been a little ungrateful for before. Thank you , for this is an opportunity I could not have imagined.
