Today, we recognize two important milestones in our nation’s history: Flag Day and the 251st Birthday of the United States Army.

On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the first official American flag, creating a lasting symbol of our nation’s unity, strength, and resilience. For many Americans, the Stars and Stripes represent freedom and patriotism. For veterans, active-duty service members, and their families, the flag is also a powerful reminder of duty, sacrifice, and service to our country. Behind every military member is a family that serves in its own way—through long separations, missed holidays, constant moves, and unwavering support.

June 14 is also the birthday of the United States Army. On this day in 1775, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed, the Continental Congress established the Continental Army to defend the American colonies and fight for independence. This makes the Army older than the nation itself and marks the beginning of a proud legacy of service that continues today.

For 251 years, Soldiers have answered the call to serve, defending our nation at home and abroad. From the Revolutionary War to present-day missions around the world, generations of Soldiers have upheld the values of duty, honor, and selfless service while protecting the freedoms represented by the flag they serve under.

As we observe Flag Day, AMVETS Riders Post 82 proudly honors all who have served under our nation’s colors, as well as the families who have stood beside them. We encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the meaning of our flag and the sacrifices made to preserve the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Never forget what our flag stands for: freedom, service, sacrifice, unity, and the enduring spirit of the American people. We celebrate the flag that unites us and the Army that has defended it for more than two and a half centuries.

🇺🇸 God Bless America, our veterans, active-duty service members, military families, and the United States Army. ⭐
