*Crime alert*

Neighbors, this weekend a Chevy Tahoe was stolen in the middle of the night. No glass break, nothing to alert them, the car was simply gone.

Coincidentally, a community member posted on Nextdoor that this happened to them recently; it was also a 2025 Chevy Tahoe.

Please be alert! If you are familiar with these kinds of thefts, please leave any prevention tips in the comments.

Representatives from the Hollywood Trail Coalition will speak about the proposed Hollywood Trail Project. The Trail would connect Woodland Park to Moody Park which will restore and connect green spaces, wildlife habitats, and historical sights along Little White Oak Bayou.

Work continues on the Shepherd Durham project with the installation of a new sanitary sewer line near the MKT development.

This pipe was installed using a directional bore, a trenchless technique that places pipe underground without digging an open trench. What makes this one especially impressive is the depth. The line sits 13 feet below the surface, deeper than the ceiling of a single-story building.

It takes specialized equipment and skilled crews to pull off work like this, and the results are a great example of the craftsmanship going into this project.

An architectural term you’ll hear a lot when discussing our Historic District protections is “FAR.”

🧐 What is FAR and how does it affect us in Norhill?

In architecture, FAR simply stands for Floor Area Ratio.
It is the proportion of a building’s total floor area to the size of the plot of land it sits on. EX: if a lot is 5,000 square feet and the allowed FAR is 1.0, you could build a total of 5000 square feet of usable floor space. Of course, trees and yard space and privacy from neighbors are all things we value in Norhill, so no one really wants a FAR of 1.0.

Photos here show an architect designed home which sits at the top of the FAR range for Norhill. With four bedrooms and bathrooms, this house is designed for a family or someone with a lot of out-of-town friends 😄.

The last photo is an actual Norhill home with a more moderate FAR, sized over 500sq ft above the average Norhill home.

Dear Norhill Neighbors 🏡,

Next week, our City of Houston Guidelines should be moving out of the HAHC, going to the City’s Quality of Life committee and then, eventually, up for adoption by the City Council. These Guidelines reflect the comprehensive work of City officials and neighborhood residents which began in 2016 (!!). 🧾 The process included multiple community workshops, focus groups, three City-sponsored neighborhood meetings, and multiple polls sent to every Norhill resident.

🗣️ There has been a lot of misinformation about the Guidelines; house flippers and builders want our community to believe there is no room for modernization in Norhill with these protections in place. 🚨 This is simply not true: protections allow for wonderful family homes, while also keeping our community accessible for single professionals, empty nesters, young couples, new families, and retirees. Norhill is what it is (charming and friendly come to mind) because of the protections of our historic status as one of the largest, oldest, and most intact Historic Districts in our city.

Adoption of the Guidelines will let new homeowners know exactly what they can do with a home in Norhill to fit their needs. Not sure of what that looks like? These Norhill houses all fall within the specs in the City Guidelines.
