October’s Yard of the Month is 1039 Melwood. This classic brick bungalow offers a sunny, colorful front yard with a lovely selection of plants. Impatiens, pink and red Pentas, and Commelina (the blue Day Flowers) all clearly enjoy their south facing orientation.

Some of you may remember a huge tree used to live on the west side of the yard, but the derecho brought it down, crushing the front porch. The homeowner did an amazing job refurbishing the porch!

Are you joining us for our Home & Garden tour next weekend? You’ll pick up your tickets at our Tour Special Feature & Ticket Booth location: Hope Lutheran Church

The story of Hope Lutheran Church (formally Norhill Church of Christ) is one of adaptation and preservation. The 1927 church reflected the traditional architectural language of early Norhill; later, 1959 renovation captured Houston’s postwar embrace of modern architecture. Hope Lutheran Church will serve as both ticket booth location and a special tour feature, offering the community an opportunity to visit its recently renovated space.

Tour proceeds benefit the Norhill Neighborhood Association, including preservation, beautification and community events. Purchase tickets online at Norhill.org.

Ticket Booklet pick up at 634 W. Cottage on tour weekend.

Hope to see you on the north esplanade next Tuesday, October 6, for National Night Out!

NNO “enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.”
Yes, most of the country does celebrate this event in August. Let’s be real: it’s just too hot here for that. Across Texas, October offers cooler weather, bringing more neighbors out to participate. We hope you’ll be among them!
