๐Ÿ›๏ธ Texas lawmakers reconvene in Jan 2027, but now is our moment to make sure policy supports Texas kids and families.

Last legislative session, all 11 of our policy priorities passed. We delivered real wins for Texas kids. This included stronger protections for survivors of human trafficking, new support to keep at-risk students from dropping out, and tools to keep youth connected to school and community.

And we continue that work in the interim by building relationships, publishing research, testifying at hearings, educating policymakers, and participating in statewide taskforces that will shape the outcomes of the 90th Texas Legislature.

We've done this for over 35 years, and we won't stop speaking out and driving change for children any time soon.

Proposed federal changes could reshape the standards and comprehensive services that have made Head Start one of the nationโ€™s most effective anti-poverty programs for over 60 years.

Today, Thursday, August 13, at 9 a.m. CT, CHILDREN AT RISK will bring together national stakeholders for a virtual press conference examining what these changes could mean for children, families, providers, and communities nationwide, and what people can do now to make their voices heard during the public comment period.

Local flexibility and greater access to child care both matter, but neither should come at the cost of quality, safety, accountability, or the whole-family services that make Head Start work.
