The chef behind our next Perfect Pairings dinner is Emmanuel Chavez of Tatemó.

A 2024 James Beard Award finalist for Best Chef: Texas and one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs of 2023, Chavez is known for his Michelin-starred Houston restaurant and celebration of heirloom corn.

On August 30, Chef Chavez joins Michael Sambrooks at The Pit Room for a special tasting experience benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Houston.

It takes a community to get hundreds of Littles ready for a new school year.

Phillips 66 employees stepped in to help make it happen, volunteering their time to pack backpacks with the supplies our Littles needed for the first day of school.

Their team raised critical funds and donated school supplies, while employees volunteered their time to pack backpacks for Littles across Greater Houston.

Perfect Pairings: A Dinner Series returns August 30 at The Pit Room.

Experience a curated dinner featuring James Beard Award recipient Chef Emmanuel Chavez of Michelin-starred Tatemó and The Pit Room owner and operator Michael Sambrooks.

Guests will enjoy an elevated dining experience while connecting with community members and supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Houston. All proceeds support our work to expand mentorship and opportunities for young people across Greater Houston.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Houston is proud to welcome Ashley Tufts to our Greater Houston Board of Directors.

Ashley is a longtime supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters and believes deeply in the impact of one-to-one mentorship, having experienced firsthand how meaningful relationships with mentors can shape a person’s life and career. Most recently, she supported our mission as a member of this year’s Gala Host Committee.

Ashley currently serves as Assistant General Counsel, Mergers and Acquisitions at WM, bringing extensive legal and corporate experience to the board. A New Orleans native and Houston resident of more than 15 years, she looks forward to giving back to the community she calls home and helping expand opportunities for Houston’s young people.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Houston celebrated the start of a new school year on Saturday by helping local students and families get Back-to-School Ready.

This year’s event served 168 families and 425 individuals, with 380 backpacks distributed to students across our programs.

Thank you to everyone who made this effort possible, from those who donated school supplies to the volunteers who sorted supplies and packed backpacks in the weeks leading up to the event, as well as the 53 volunteers who gave their time on Saturday.

We are grateful for the support of our community in helping ensure Houston’s young people have the tools they need to start the school year prepared and ready to succeed.

A different type of school supply is needed this year: a Mentor. A backpack is a great start. But what really changes a student’s school year is having a mentor in their corner.

Through our school-based mentoring program, students receive support, encouragement, and guidance right on campus. Help us make both possible this back-to-school season.

Career exploration starts with conversations.

A huge thank you to the volunteers from PayPal who spent time with our Littles sharing their career journeys and offering a behind-the-scenes look at the many opportunities within their organization. By hearing from professionals across a variety of departments, our youth gained valuable insight into different career pathways, the skills needed to succeed, and the many possibilities for their futures.
