The Niekro Foundation has been with us since I was able to participate. They have helped my family by giving support. This is my 4th year to be a part of this event. I was the top fundraiser for the AVM survivors for 2 years and that made me really proud to give back to such a great foundation. Meet Our 2026 5K Chairs: Crissee & Terry Cargile

We're honored to serve as Chairs of the 2026 Niekro Aneurysm & AVM Awareness 5K.

For us, this event is deeply personal.

We're walking in memory of our son, Terry "T-Rex" Cargile II, who lost his battle with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) at just 26 years old. Terry was a kind, disciplined, fun-loving young man with his whole life ahead of him. We miss him every day, and we remain committed to honoring his life by helping create a future where no other family has to experience this kind of loss.

That's why we're inviting you to join us.

Happy Birthday to our founder, Natalie Niekro!

Today, we’re celebrating the woman who turned personal loss into a lasting legacy of hope.

After losing her dad, Joe Niekro, to a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2006, Natalie founded the Niekro Foundation in his memory, creating a community dedicated to ensuring no one has to face an aneurysm, AVM, or stroke alone.

Nearly 20 years later, her vision continues to make a difference through patient support, education, awareness, and medical research.

Happy Birthday, Natalie! Thank you for turning your family’s story into hope for so many others. Help us wish Natalie a happy birthday!

In Honor of Joe Niekro

One moment changed everything.

In 2006, Joe Niekro—a beloved husband, father, friend, and World Series Champion—passed away after suffering a brain aneurysm. In the midst of unimaginable loss, his daughter, Natalie Niekro, made a promise: that no other family would have to face an aneurysm, AVM, or stroke alone.

That promise became the Niekro Aneurysm & AVM Foundation.
Today, because of supporters like you, the Foundation funds lifesaving research, connects patients and caregivers with support, and provides education, resources, and hope to families across the country.

This September and October, we invite you to honor Joe's legacy by joining the 2026 Niekro Aneurysm & AVM Awareness 5K.
