Houston Hospitality Alliance Growing hospitality, tourism, and industry success in the friendliest global city: Houston, Texas.

The GHCVB is now known as the Houston Hospitality Alliance (HHA). The 501(c)(6) organization will be led by a board of directors chaired by Reginald “Reggie” Martin. HHA serves as a trade association focused on advocacy for Houston’s hospitality industry at the local, state and national levels. Its unique structure will also help strengthen ties with other industry-related associations in Houston, including the Hotel Lodging Association of Greater Houston and the Greater Houston Restaurant Association. Houston hospitality is stronger when industry leaders bring their experience, ideas, and perspectives to the table.

Applications are now open to serve on the Houston Hospitality Alliance Board of Directors, and we’re looking for engaged hospitality professionals and industry leaders who want to help shape what comes next.

Board service is an opportunity to do more than participate—it’s an opportunity to help guide HHA’s work to Promote, Advocate, Connect, and Educate on behalf of Houston’s hospitality community.

Houston is making its mark as one of the country's leading convention destinations.

This year, Houston was ranked the No. 5 Best Conference City in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report—placing it ahead of destinations including New York, Washington, D.C., Anaheim and San Antonio. Houston was also the highest-ranked Texas city.

And the opportunity extends far beyond meeting rooms.

In 2025 alone, Houston First booked a record 517 future meetings and conventions representing 881,737 hotel room nights. Those visitors also mean potential business for Houston's restaurants, transportation providers, attractions, entertainment venues, event professionals and countless other businesses that make up our hospitality ecosystem.

Every convention is an opportunity to show visitors what Houston hospitality is all about—and give them a reason to come back.

Hurricane season isn’t over—and preparedness goes beyond having an emergency plan on file.

For Houston’s hospitality industry, severe weather can quickly affect staffing, transportation, reservations, events, deliveries, power, and, most importantly, the safety and experience of guests and employees.

Now is a good time to ask: Does your team know what happens when weather changes operations?

✓ Who communicates updates to employees?
✓ Who keeps guests and customers informed?
✓ What’s the plan if power or technology is disrupted?
✓ How will cancellations, closures, or schedule changes be handled?
✓ Who makes the call when operations need to change?

The best time to answer these questions is before they’re urgent.

A prepared team can communicate more clearly, respond more confidently, and continue providing great hospitality—even when the forecast doesn’t cooperate.

Great hospitality begins long before a guest walks through the door.

Houston’s hospitality community recently received some well-deserved national recognition when Food & W**e named Justin Bartges of Musaafer one of its 2026 Hospitality Heroes—recognizing an approach to service built on preparation, curiosity, cultural understanding, and creating meaningful experiences for guests.

His story offers a valuable reminder for all of us working in hospitality: exceptional service isn't only about what happens at the table. It's also about the work that happens behind the scenes.

Know the story behind what you serve.
When team members understand the ingredients, traditions, techniques, and cultural significance behind an experience, they can share it with guests in a way that feels authentic and meaningful.

Prepare with purpose.
Personalized hospitality rarely happens by accident. Research, communication, attention to detail, and thoughtful preparation create the foundation for memorable service.

Understand your guests.
Great hospitality isn't one-size-fits-all. Paying attention, asking questions, and understanding what matters to each guest can transform good service into a genuine connection.

Make learning part of the culture.

Houston’s culinary economy is powered by the people, businesses, and organizations working every day to move our industry forward—and meaningful conversations about its future matter.

Houston Hospitality Alliance is proud to have Executive Director Reginald “Reggie” Martin, Jr. join the Feed the Soul Foundation Leadership Roundtable on Houston’s Culinary Economy on Wednesday, September 23, at United Way of Greater Houston.

Reggie will join fellow industry leaders for a candid conversation about the challenges and opportunities facing Houston’s culinary community, what’s working within the industry today, and where we go from here.

We’re also proud to see HHA Board Director Mike Shine of the Greater Houston Chapter - Texas Restaurant Association joining the panel, bringing his perspective on the restaurant industry in Houston and across Texas.

The roundtable will bring together voices from across hospitality, restaurant ownership, finance, innovation, and design for an important conversation about strengthening Houston’s culinary economy and supporting the businesses and people behind it.

We brought Houston’s hospitality community together to celebrate the cultures and traditions of Haiti, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Jamaica—all while supporting the future of our industry through the Houston Hospitality Alliance Endowment at the University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College of Global Hospitality Leadership.
