WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
Things are shifting fast for survivors and not in the direction our communities need. Across every area in Houston, but our underserved neighborhoods are taking the hardest hits. Families are scared. Families are being separated, and the very people who have fought to survive the unthinkable are now fighting to survive policy changes that were never made with their reality in mind.
Human trafficking continues to rise in Texas, and recent statewide enforcement efforts are proving what survivors have been saying for years: exploitation is happening in our own backyards, in homes and our communities, and to our own people including children. But when systems fail to provide protection, survivors stop speaking, not because they don’t want justice, but because they don’t feel safe enough to seek it.
Laws are changing faster than the services that are supposed to protect survivors. In Houston, where so many households already struggle to access safety, housing, and resources, these shifts hit like a tidal wave. What’s happening is not just policy it’s people’s lives.
Leadership complacency in the face of trafficking, exploitations, and all other forms of abuse doesn’t just pause progress.
It silences voices.
It destabilizes families.
It makes entire communities invisible.
And we refuse to stand by and watch that happen.
Because if survivors’ voices don’t matter…
If justice isn’t served…
If aid doesn’t reach those who need it…
If protection fails at the exact moment it’s needed most…
What are we doing?
Breakin Khainz stands firmly with survivors with the families fighting to stay together, with the neighborhoods being pushed to the margins, with anyone whose safety has been treated like an afterthought. We continue to answer the call push for resources and gather aid.
Silence is not neutrality.
Silence is complicity.
What's happening to the safe spaces for survivors?
What happened to the we are in this together?
As I watch so many even some I stood with in this movement loose positions and be left and forgotten. It makes me sick.
When I start speaking I will not be silenced. - Director Dominique McGee
