The 2025-2026 Christian County Youth Leadership class graduated 31 students today.

Students from Christian County High School, Heritage Christian Academy, Hopkinsville High School and University Heights Academy received recognition for completing the 9-month program.

Remarks were made by Christian County Chamber of Commerce President Taylor Hayes and Leadership Board Chair Lucas Stagner.

Students highlighted their experiences for the year with Lincoln Hauret and Aniya Wilford receiving the Spirit of Leadership awards.

The leadership class also learned the winner of their group agency presentations that were presented on Friday. The winning agency, Challenge House, will receive $1000. The funds are given from an endowment set up by the family of the late Al Wettstein who tragically passed away in a hotel fire in 1946 just weeks after graduating at the top of his class at Hopkinsville High School. His leadership potential unfulfilled, the values and leadership demonstrated by the participants in Christian County Youth Leadership reflect the same promise and character that defined Al Wettstein.

Coordinators for youth leadership are Kim Batts and Nikki Chambers.

On Friday, our Youth Leadership students spent their closing retreat at Hopkinsville Fire/EMS’s Fire Station 5 with Chief of Training Marty Bangart.

They began their day with group presentations before moving on to a day filled with information and life saving instruction.

The day ended with a tour of the new, state of the art Christian County High School with Executive Principal Ken Carver.

Our students are grateful for the skills shared from Chief Bangart.

Thank you to Hopkinsville Fire Department and Christian County Public Schools for sponsoring the day.
