Another District 4 meeting is in the books!

Thank you to everyone who came out today, participated, gave reports, asked questions, and continues to put in the work for our veterans, our Posts, and our communities.

District meetings aren’t just about conducting business. They’re about bringing our Posts together, sharing information, solving problems, supporting one another, and making sure we continue moving forward as one team.

I am incredibly proud of what District 4 continues to accomplish. We have a lot happening across our District, and none of it happens because of one person. It happens because people step up, volunteer their time, share their knowledge, and are willing to do the work.

We also handled some important District business today, including our special election, and I appreciate everyone who helped make sure we continue moving forward with a strong leadership team.

There is still plenty of work ahead of us this year — membership, programs, supporting our Posts, fundraising, community involvement, and most importantly, taking care of our veterans and their families.

Thank you to our District officers, Post leadership, members, Auxiliary members, and everyone who continues to show up and support District 4.

We accomplished a lot last year, but we aren't here to live off yesterday's accomplishments. We keep building. We keep serving. We keep showing up.

Shout out to Auxillary for our District for they are up and back running. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Thank you Streamwood for allowing us to have our meetings at the police station and Auxiliary was at the fire station.

One Mission. One Team. Every Veteran Matters.

1244th Transportation Company Family Day

VFW Illinois District 4 and Joshua Harris VFW Post 2868 was honored to be invited by 1st Sgt. Lozada to participate in the 1244th Transportation Company Family Day with the Illinois Army National Guard.

The team hosted an informational table where we had the opportunity to speak directly with Soldiers currently serving and provide valuable information about the VFW, membership eligibility, available resources, benefits, programs, and the support the VFW can provide to service members and their families.

VFW swag was handed out, our always-popular ducks, and female toy Soldiers — a small but meaningful way to make sure our women in uniform are represented too.

Events like this give us an important opportunity to connect with service members before they transition out of the military, build relationships, and show them that the VFW is here for them during their service and long after.

Thank you to 1st Sgt. Lozada and the 1244th Transportation Company for inviting us to be part of their Family Day and allowing us the opportunity to support their Soldiers and families.

GREAT NEWS FOR ILLINOIS VETERANS!

Thanks to House Bill 4385 (Public Act 104-0603), beginning July 1, 2027, veterans who qualify for certain Illinois military specialty license plates will be eligible to receive a SECOND SET of plates under the same terms and conditions as their first set.

For many veterans whose qualifying military plates are currently issued without registration fees, this means the opportunity to have a second qualifying set under those same terms — allowing veterans with more than one vehicle to display the recognition they have earned. 🇺🇸

This is also a great example of what can happen when supporting veterans rises above party lines.

🏛️ HB 4385 passed unanimously:
Illinois House: 111-0
Illinois Senate: 57-0

A huge thank you to Rep. Kevin Schmidt and Sen. Erica Harriss for leading this legislation, along with all of the House and Senate sponsors and co-sponsors:

House:
Stephanie A. Kifowit
Brandun Schweizer
Dennis Tipsword
Dan Swanson
Charles Meier
Tony M. McCombie

Senate:
Jason Plummer
Doris Turner
Meg Loughran Cappel
Suzy Glowiak Hilton
Christopher Belt
Ram Villivalam
Mike Simmons
Michael W. Halpin
Napoleon Harris III

And thank you to every legislator who voted YES and helped move this legislation across the finish line for Illinois veterans. 🇺🇸

📅 MARK YOUR CALENDAR: JULY 1, 2027

Veterans who may qualify should keep this date in mind. As implementation gets closer, additional application information should become available through the Illinois Secretary of State.

Veterans earned these recognitions through their service. It's great to see Illinois making it possible for eligible veterans to display them on more than one vehicle.

🚨 ACTION ALERT: Veterans’ earned benefits should never be used to pay for other veterans’ benefits.

Competing versions of the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act (TCAVA) were blocked in the Senate, but the fight isn’t over. The VFW strongly opposes any proposal that would reduce future VA disability compensation to fund expanded benefits.

📣 Now is the time to make your voice heard. Tell Congress to remove the harmful pay-for and protect the benefits veterans have earned through their service and sacrifice.

National Night Out – Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital Aug 4, 2026

VFW Illinois District 4 was invited to host an informational table at the National Night Out event held at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital. The event was supported by members from across the District, including VFW Posts 2868, 981, 1337, 3579, and 5979. District 5 also had George there to help.

The event was a tremendous success, providing an opportunity to connect with Hines VA employees, patients, Veterans, their families, and community partners. District members answered questions, shared information about VFW programs and services, discussed the VFW's legislative advocacy efforts on behalf of Veterans, and explained how the VFW continues to fight for veterans' benefits, health care, and earned rights at the local, state, and national levels.
Through the generosity of our VFW team, we distributed more than $140 worth of school supplies, along with snacks, to Hines VA patients , Veterans and their families. Also Shout out to The Mindful Body for a donation toward the school supplies we appreciate you.

The event strengthened community partnerships, increased awareness of the VFW's mission, and allowed us to continue assisting and advocating for those who have served.
