Happy Equality Day - June 26

We celebrate these landmark Supreme Court rulings that were released on this day in the following years...

2003 - Lawrence v. Texas which struck down all anti-so**my laws. Hawai‘i repealed its so**my law in 1972.

2013 - US v. Windsor which struck down section 3 of the so-called "Defense of Marriage Act” (DOMA) and allowed for federal recognition of same-sex couples married under state law. This ruling led to Hawai‘i legalizing Marriage Equality on December 2, 2013.

2015 - Obergefell v. Hodges which brought Marriage Equality to all 50 states and US Territories. The ruling was later codified into law on December 13, 2022 when President Joe Biden signed the bi-partisan bill named the Respect for Marriage Act into law.

We are very pleased to announce the Grand Marshalls of the 2025 Hawai‘i Island Pride Parade is none other than Kū Ānuenue, a non-profit in Hilo that has been doing so much to create a safe space for our māhū and LGBTQIA2s+ people! Wave to them in the parade and make sure you stop by their festival booth for more information about their services and face-painting!
