Happy Birthday to Bernie Kuehn, Oregon Chorale’s Founder and Artistic Director Emeritus!

Oregon Chorale would not be where it is today without Bernie’s vision, dedication, and passion for choral music. His legacy continues to inspire our singers, our community, and future generations of musicians.

Music education has always been an important part of Bernie’s vision. He established the Chorale’s high school choral internship program, which has since grown into our Emerging Voices outreach program. Today, the program provides free voice lessons for our interns, ten choral clinics led by Artistic Director Jason Sabino, and a new choral festival serving up to 20 middle and high schools annually. All of these opportunities are offered at no cost, helping support and inspire young musicians and school choral programs throughout the region.

Another lasting part of his legacy is the Bernie Kuehn Scholarship Fund, administered by the Hillsboro Community Foundation (). The fund awards $4,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors planning to study music in college.

Thank you, Bernie, for laying the foundation for the Oregon Chorale we know today and for continuing to inspire the work we do in our community.

🚨 STATE OF EMERGENCY: OUR OFFICE HAS BEEN CONSUMED BY THE SUGAR BLIGHT. 🚨

The Oregon Chorale rolled up, dumped this absolute TICKING TIME BOMB OF CONFECTIONERY TERROR right on our desk, and refused to elaborate. Look at them. They are standing there, completely unbothered, drunk on the power of a thousand mini-chocolate bars. They think they’ve won the candy war against Hillsboro Artists' Regional Theatre - HART and us. They haven’t. We will fight them to the death (or until we pass out from a red dye 40 overdose). 🦹‍♂️🍫

Do we know how many calories are on this table? No.
Are we going to eat our way through the drywall to protect it? Absolutely.

THE PLOT TWIST: We aren’t even keeping it. We are weaponizing this entire sugar mountain and unleashing it onto local businesses for Trick or Treat Main Street this Saturday, Oct 31, from 5–7 PM! 🎃👻

Bring your kids, bring your chaos, and come rescue us from this sugary nightmare before we turn into giant gummy bears ourselves. Send medics! 🚑💨 Candy Map in the comments!!

Hello and Greetings from the North Island of New Zealand!

We have had a busy start to our tour that we completely lost track of time to share what we have been doing here!

Everyone landed in Wellington on July 30th and we kicked off our tour by a lovely dinner at our hotel. The next morning we visited the Te Papa Museum, the Old St. Paul’s Cathedral which had been newly renovated, and the Wellington Botanical Gardens.

Our first concert was the following day where we had a joint concert with Supertonic at St. Andrews on the Terrace. We shared afternoon tea between rehearsal and concert and may or may not have also sang some b**r choir songs at the Pub during the afterparty. ☺️

The next day we made our way north to Napier and went straight to our second concert with the Waiapu Cathedral Choir.

Yesterday we had a free morning to explore Napier before spending our afternoon and evening during a w**e tasting at Church Road Winery and dinner at the oldest w**ery in NZ, Mission Estate Winery.

Today we are doing a scenic tour with a couple of stops on our way to Rotoura.

Few symphonic works are as well known as Beethoven’s 9th symphony. In addition to being a stunningly powerful composition from beginning to end, the 9th symphony has some interesting trivia attached to it!

Did you know:

Beethoven’s 9th was the first major symphony to incorporate chorus and vocal soloists? The choral text in the famous fourth movement is adapted from a poem Beethoven had been fascinated with for over 20 years: Friedrich Schiller's "An die Freude" ("Ode to Joy").

By the time he composed this massive work, Beethoven's hearing had severely deteriorated. At the symphony’s premiere in Vienna, the composer had to be physically turned around on his conducting podium to see the thunderous applause he couldn't hear at the end of the final movement.
