The Oregon Chorale is excited to announce the 2026 recipient of the Bernie Kuehn Scholarship - Leo Trajano from Glencoe High School!

A violinist from Hillsboro, Oregon, Leo started playing piano at age 5 and violin at the age of 8. Leo currently serves as co-concertmaster of the Portland Youth Philharmonic and is a member of Camerata PYP. He has been awarded solo performances with the Portland Youth Philharmonic, Oregon Mozart Players, the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra, the Willamette Falls Symphony, and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony.

Leo was the winner of the 2024-2025 Oregon MTNA Senior Strings Competition, and he has been the recipient of a Monday Musical Club of Portland Music Award. He has been a member of NYO-USA (National Youth Orchestra) and NYO2, and he has attended Chamber Music Northwest Young Artist Institute, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and Madeline Island Chamber Music for Strings.

This fall, Leo will be attending The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto to study violin performance. In addition to playing violin, Leo is an enthusiastic member of the Glencoe High School Choir, and he continues to play piano, often as an accompanist for student musicians. In his free time, he enjoys pop music, movies, theater, and long walks.

Congratulations, Leo! We look forward to seeing your career take shape!

The Oregon Chorale is excited to have secured a last minute surprise for our concert goers at Into The West this weekend! Join us for a pre-concert chat at 3:50pm with Amelia Butler, founder and director of Learn Māori Abroad, to learn more about Māori language and culture! Amelia will also be leading us in an interactive haka workshop during the performance!

Haka is the traditional war dance of the Māori, the Indigenous people of Aotearoa (New Zealand), and holds deep cultural significance as a powerful expression of identity, unity, and storytelling. This interactive workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn the meaning, significance and physical practice of haka. It combines movement, voice, breath, posture, and facial expression to create a dynamic and empowering group experience.

Come learn and move with us this weekend at Into The West at Liberty High School in Hillsboro! Get your tickets today at www.oregonchorale.org.
