Promoting the health/well-being of every person, every day through education and recovery support. CARES honors ALL pathways of recovery.

Prevention is Key is a 501(C)3 organization dedicated to individuals. We are a holistic, person-centric, public-health focused, community-based non-profit dedicated to the health and well-being of our community. CARES - The Center for Addiction Recovery Education & Success: A peer to peer, volunteer-based recovery oriented sanctuary. We strive to put a face on recovery, build recovery relationships and serve as a physical location where the recovery community can come together. Prevention is Key impacts the individual by:

• Educating children on living a healthy lifestyle
• Offering programs for individuals with addiction or in recovery to aim for a life free from use
• Creating a community for those in recovery where they can live free from stigma
• Providing peer emotional support for individuals in recovery

Prevention is Key impacts the community by:

• Bringing community awareness to the volume of individuals affected by addiction
• Providing programs for children in school-settings that instills a healthy way of life
• Offering services to individuals with an addiction by keeping them healthy and free from relapse
• Educating area businesses about the importance of understanding drug use, addiction and how their awareness can impact their bottom line
• Reducing underage drinking and teen drug use

Prevention is Key impacts the economy by:

• Lowering the taxpayer contribution to support those with drug or alcohol addiction or in recovery
• Lowering the cost of government services for DUI programs by reducing the number of drunk drivers on the road

In preparation for Red Ribbon Week, the Jefferson Township Youth Coalition (JTYC), in partnership with Jefferson Township and Prevention Is Key’s Prevention team, placed 500 pinwheels on the front lawn of Jefferson Township High School on October 21st.

The pinwheels represent the thousands of lives lost annually to underage drinking and serve as a powerful reminder of why prevention and education matter.

Together, we’re raising awareness, encouraging healthy choices, and working to prevent future tragedies in our communities.

📢 Our Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) January 12, 2027 class is open for registration!

Ready to make a difference and support others on their recovery journey? Join our virtual CPRS training from January 12th through March 4th, 2027 every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 AM.

Our revised CPRS curriculum now features a NEW Harm Reduction Domain, providing participants with expanded knowledge and skills to support individuals across multiple pathways of recovery.

📍 Do you live or work in Passaic County? Scholarships are available for eligible Passaic County residents through funding from the Passaic County Department of Human Services.

🚌 Stuff the Bus is back!

We’re collecting essential winter items to support those experiencing homelessness in Passaic County. Donations will be distributed on December 10, 2026.

Suggested items:

• Hoodies & other warm clothing 🥼

Prevention Is Key’s Harm Reduction team recently conducted another Narcan training at the Clifton Library, providing participants with the knowledge and tools to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose.

Increasing access to Narcan and overdose response education helps empower community members to take action when every second matters.

Last Friday, October 9th, members of the Prevention Is Key team had the pleasure of attending the MHA 8th Annual Morris County Legislative Breakfast.

It was an informative morning hosted by the Morris County Mental Health & Addiction Coalition, bringing together community members and policymakers to discuss important developments, challenges, and opportunities related to mental health and substance use in our community.

Take a day to pause, breathe, and refill your cup! Join us tomorrow Saturday, October 10, from 9:30 AM–2 PM for a free, restorative day designed especially for families supporting a loved one’s recovery, but open to anyone who could use a day of rest, renewal, and connection.

Enjoy gentle yoga with Dr. Sarah Michalowski, an inspiring talk with Timothy Gulick, a healthy lunch, and an afternoon of QiGong, meditation, and a soothing sound bath with Thuan Nguyen.

Wear comfortable clothes and give yourself permission to slow down. Because those who give so much to others deserve time to refill their own cup.
