The Noble Blades are excited to share that one of our senior members, Bess Kaye, has become a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors!

The journey to becoming a CT is rigorous; candidates for the Teacher Certification Workshop, the TCW, must have at least 40 hours with two different CTs in each of the 8 weapon disciplines. Candidates must already have extensive professional experience in teaching stage combat skills, and are required to present their teaching philosophy in their TCW application. Only eight individuals are chosen to attend this 3-week certification workshop, held every other year at the annual National Stage Combat Workshop in Ruston, Louisiana, that culminates in the candidate's evaluation and potential endorsement as a CT.

All of that to say: the training is expansive, the requirements are intensive, and the competition is fierce. But fierce is EXACTLY what Bess Kaye is, and we are so delighted and proud of her for achieving this incredible milestone. Bess already has many impressive feathers in her cap, and this one is a brilliant addition.

CONGRATULATIONS, BESS!!!

The Noble Blades have three Virtual sessions this season! Accessible from anywhere, and all able to be engaged with asynchronously! A fanatastic way to dive deeper into the world of stage combat and some incredibly cool artists from all over the country!

First up, Dr. Danielle Rosvally explores using poetic meter as a foundation for creating interesting soundscapes in choreography and, from there, choreography itself.

Then, Raya Tuffaha takes us back to the page with various methods to develop effective written violence for stage.

And in the spring, Aaron Josephs will give an introduction to some of the of the neuroscience most relevant to stage combat; how audience members’ eyes and ears process the illusions we use on stage, and how we, as actor/combatants, physically learn new techniques and choreography.

The Skills Proficiency Test class is a fantastic way to examine one of the 8 weapons archetypes laid out by the Society of American Fight Directors. In this 12 week course, you will explore technique, drill, performance, and scene work, and perform a fight in context of a scene in front of an SAFD Fight Master, possibly gaining a Proficiency in the performance of this weapon.
