Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation The Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation empowers youth to achieve their goals by supporting their health, well-being and education.

Making a difference since 2005, the NWFCU Foundation has been a community leader dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of children through its programs. The NWFCU Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity, was established to help promote and manage Northwest Federal Credit Union's charitable activities and programs which reflect the interest of our membership and the local community -- extending beyond the service and saving of the credit union to focus on scholarships, mentoring and youth outreach programs. We have also participated, and continue to participate in numerous charitable programs, including:

•Coordinated food, toy, clothing and school supply drives to assist local families in need by collecting items and raising over $22,000.
•Volunteered over 2,220 hours of time mentoring elementary school students.
•Delivered over 2,500 meals through the Meals of Wheels program.
•Gave back to several local Fairfax, VA communities on
•Community outreach

Our primary focus in these programs are:

•Supporting the whole child, in mind, body, and spirit
•Strengthening communities
•Helping Youth

•Supporting education

Help us keep our students warm this winter

Before we know it, the colder days will be here. For many students in our community, that means heading to school without a warm coat or the winter essentials they need.

That’s why we’re partnering with Koons Automotive for our annual Winter Warmth Drive.

Our mission is to provide 2,600 winter coats to ensure every student in our region can face the cold months with protection, comfort, and the confidence to keep learning.

A huge shoutout to our Vienna Branch team! During the Foundation’s Step Into Success outreach drive this summer, the team raised an incredible $769 through coin box donations. That is seriously impressive.

Thank you to our incredible branch teams for supporting the NWFCU Foundation during the annual Branch Cookout! Saturday was a chance to celebrate all of the hard work our branches do every day for our members and communities, while giving back at the same time. All proceeds from the cookout will be donated to the Foundation to help support local youth and families. And of course, our teams showed up in their best island-themed outfits!

32 scholarships were awarded totaling $170,000 in educational support. This year’s cohort represents an incredible range of passions, talents, and goals. Among them are students who plan to pursue careers in medical research, accounting, law, psychology, occupational therapy, and even professional animation. Many are breaking barriers as first-generation college students, and all are driven by a shared commitment to making a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond. Their ambition and resilience remind us why this work matters so deeply. They beautifully represent the Foundation's mission!

The N.E.E.D.S. Project in action at Sterling Middle School! Adult English learner volunteers spent a Saturday morning helping bring the school’s new pollinator garden to life. They shared their landscaping skills, worked together, and helped create a space that will soon be used for special education activities and hands-on learning. The project is supported through the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation’s N.E.E.D.S. Project and will give students a new place to learn, explore and connect with nature.

A record-breaking year for Drive for the Driven! Nearly $250,000 raised. One incredible day. Countless opportunities created for youth. Our 11th Annual Drive for the Driven Golf Tournament was one for the record books with a sold out course! With phenomenal weather, an incredible group of golfers, sponsors and supporters, and an energy that carried throughout the entire day, this year’s tournament was truly something special.

Most importantly, together we achieved historic, record-breaking fundraising efforts — raising nearly a quarter of a million dollars to directly support youth in our communities.

What started 11 years ago continues to grow into something bigger each year, and none of it would be possible without the generosity of everyone who sponsors, plays, volunteers, donates and believes in the work of the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation.

Northwest volunteers spent the day supporting Metz Middle School, one of the NW Foundation’s Adopt-a-Schools, helping prepare resources for students and families as the new school year gets underway. Our volunteers organized brand-new athletic shoes from our Step Into Success Outreach Drive, transformed the space into a “shoe shop” where families could find the right pair, and sorted school supplies to help students start the year prepared.
The team then went to Baldwin Elementary School to lend a hand at Monday Market, where NOVA Food Rescue provides fresh produce rescued from the weekend to families in need.

At Dranesville Elementary School’s Back-to-School Night, Northwest volunteers met a student who arrived wearing the same pair of shoes she selected from our Step Into Success Outreach Drive last year. This year, she was all smiles as she picked out a brand-new pair to grow into for the school year ahead. It was a special reminder that the support we provide doesn’t end when an event is over.

Throughout the evening, the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation provided 240 pairs of brand-new athletic shoes, along with socks, financial literacy books, piggy banks, and bags to help students start the year feeling prepared and confident.

Thank you to our incredible Northwest volunteers who spent the evening fitting shoes, assisting families, and making sure every student felt special.

As schools begin welcoming students and families back, the shoes and socks provided through the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation’s Step Into Success Outreach Drive are already finding their way onto students’ feet!

One of our partner schools shared that their very first family stopped by to select new shoes—and all three children left excited about their brand-new pairs.

Moments like this remind us that a pair of shoes is so much more than a basic necessity.
