The Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation empowers youth to achieve their goals by supporting their health, well-being and education.

Making a difference since 2005, the NWFCU Foundation has been a community leader dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of children through its programs. The NWFCU Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity, was established to help promote and manage Northwest Federal Credit Union's charitable activities and programs which reflect the interest of our membership and the local community -- extendin

g beyond the service and saving of the credit union to focus on scholarships, mentoring and youth outreach programs. We have also participated, and continue to participate in numerous charitable programs, including:

•Coordinated food, toy, clothing and school supply drives to assist local families in need by collecting items and raising over $22,000.
•Volunteered over 2,220 hours of time mentoring elementary school students.
•Delivered over 2,500 meals through the Meals of Wheels program.
•Gave back to several local Fairfax, VA communities on
•Community outreach

Our primary focus in these programs are:

•Supporting the whole child, in mind, body, and spirit
•Strengthening communities

•Supporting education

At Dranesville Elementary School’s Back-to-School Night, Northwest volunteers met a student who arrived wearing the same pair of shoes she selected from our Step Into Success Outreach Drive last year. This year, she was all smiles as she picked out a brand-new pair to grow into for the school year ahead. It was a special reminder that the support we provide doesn’t end when an event is over.

Throughout the evening, the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation provided 240 pairs of brand-new athletic shoes, along with socks, financial literacy books, piggy banks, and bags to help students start the year feeling prepared and confident.

Thank you to our incredible Northwest volunteers who spent the evening fitting shoes, assisting families, and making sure every student felt special.

As schools begin welcoming students and families back, the shoes and socks provided through the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation’s Step Into Success Outreach Drive are already finding their way onto students’ feet!

One of our partner schools shared that their very first family stopped by to select new shoes—and all three children left excited about their brand-new pairs.

Moments like this remind us that a pair of shoes is so much more than a basic necessity.

300 pairs of shoes. 500 brand-new books. One unforgettable evening at Jennie Dean Elementary School.
There was something truly special about watching students pick out a new pair of shoes, choose a book of their own, and walk away with the biggest smiles.
In partnership with Koons Automotive, the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation provided 300 pairs of brand-new athletic shoes and socks and 500 new books to students at Jennie Dean Elementary School during the school’s family resource event.

“It makes me feel like I’m visible.”

Through the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation’s N.E.E.D.S. Project, students from Dogwood, Hutchison, and Clearview elementary schools participated in Stars on Stage, a 12-week theater residency that brought Disney’s Finding Nemo KIDS to life.

Students built confidence, strengthened communication skills, formed new friendships, and discovered the power of their own voices. Their performances reached more than 2,000 students, educators, staff members, and family members across the Herndon and Reston communities.

Before the program, only 26% of surveyed students felt confident performing or speaking in front of others. Afterward, that number increased to 79%.

This is the kind of lasting impact the N.E.E.D.S. Project was created to support: helping schools and community organizations turn meaningful ideas into opportunities that help young people feel seen, heard, and empowered.

Summer is filled with moments that help kids grow like racing across playgrounds, exploring new places, making friends, and building confidence along the way. Our Step Into Success Outreach Drive provides brand-new athletic shoes and socks to local students in need, helping them stay active, confident, and ready to succeed throughout the school year.
We are grateful to partner with Konica Minolta to support children across our community.

This summer, the NWFCU Foundation helped provide 1,300 weekend food bags to summer school students at Dogwood Elementary School and Lake Anne Elementary School in partnership with Helping Hungry Kids.

A special thank you to our incredible Northwest volunteers who took the time to prepare and pack these food bags with care. Because of their support, students had access to nourishing food over the weekend, helping them return to school ready to learn, grow, and thrive.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation's 2nd Annual FUNraising Happy Hour at Jimmy's Old Town Tavern on Thursday, July 9. It was wonderful to see more than 100 employees come together for an evening of fun, connection, and giving back. Despite the stormy weather, our incredible Northwest employees showed up in support of the Step Into Success campaign and, together, raised $2,631 to help provide brand-new shoes and socks for local students heading back to school.
Whether you attended, purchased raffle tickets, volunteered, or simply helped spread the word, your support makes a meaningful difference. Thank you for helping us take another step toward ensuring every child starts the school year with confidence.
