We are falling behind on feed costs and cannot seem to catch up. I’m returning to work after my surgery a bit early, and doing everything in my power to cover the animals needs as fast as I can. We are a couple weeks overdue for the farrier, more hay and bagged feeds needed immediately, $200 in debt on hay already, and February is when we normally do annual dentals and that is important for two of the elders. I do my best not to need help, with just four horses, a donkey, two sheep, seven goats and two pigs in our custody, and we certainly arent taking any cases until I am well or donations/grants improve. We still get calla weekly for need and do whatever we can to provide vet care or networking. Please consider a donation for feed and maintenance. It’s getting a bit scary with putting the elders on their winter callorie hike.

I am doing better! Surgery was successful and other than check ups with oncology every three months for the next two years, I am currently “in the clear” and was cleared to go back to work carefully and slowly. Surprising few, even in my darkest time of need, I find myself helping animals and others in need. Tomorrow I am taking the new human resident of the ranch and her cat to the vet in safford for an ear hematoma. It’s affordable there. Around $200 at worst. This woman was facing homelessness while extremely ill, and we were able to get her refuge here in a camper on the property. She has next to no income. Help with this bill would be amazing. Her animals are about all she has left besides an unbelievably hard battle with her health. It’s also time for the farrier for all hooved residents of the rescue as well as time to buy hay and i am so financially buried from my own illness, its daunting to face the new year with over a thousand in animal expenses right out of the gate. Your support at this time is appreciated more than ever. Soon, I should be back to meeting 90% of our needs or more off my income. Besides, it is THE YEAR OF THE HORSE! I sure hope it isn’t a $300 auction chestnut mare nobody lunged… 🫠 Tater and Fern featured for cute tax.

Someone said something extremely hateful to me this morning about the gofundme I put up for my long health ordeal. All I have to say is this… we are pretty much all a few months sick, a natural or man made disaster, a lay off or a disease away from poverty. None of us are a month away from being billionaires, or anything remotely close. I’ve been a helper my entire life. Any time I find someone in need, I do whatever I can. Animals, people, friends, strangers… I help. I’ll even help the as**at who was so incredibly rude this morning when their time comes. I’m definitely gonna remind them… but I’ll help. Stop aligning your morals with an imaginary situation in which you are immune to circumstancial need. It doesn’t exist. One day, empathy and kindness will be the grace that saves YOU from ruin, and if you’re lucky, folks will be gracious enough to forget your behavior to others when they were in need.

With my ongoing medical nightmare, I could really use help with hay and feed for the animals remaining at the ranch. I have rehomed everyone I can, and have been primarily paying for their needs, farrier, feed, vet etc out of my income which is normally fine. I’m unable to do much until this is resolved without getting much weaker any time I try. Please consider a donation for feed. I’m running out of reserved funds quickly with a lot of medical needs ahead. New insurance is helping but still without full treatment plan and likely facing procedures that will require rest. Thank you!

You’ve all watched and helped as I saved animal lives for the last couple decades. Now I need your help on a more serious level. My dear friend has faced unbelievable loss, health issues and financial struggles over the last ten years and now it’s killing her. She’s in Denver in the hospital because stress caused a bleeding and perforated ulcer that resulted in loss of a large part of her stomach. She will come out of the hospital further behind on bills and likely facing an eviction with no where to go. She has no immediate family, and no one else capable of providing her a stress free place to stay. I have to revitalize one of the old bunk houses from the homelessness relief program immediately and go to Denver to bring her to the ranch where she can heal and be protected from fear of homelessness, loss of her beloved cat and general stress. This is a human life. A very worthy, kind and loving human life that has served in animal rescue and humanitarian causes endlessly, and can hardly bear asking for the help she desperately needs. Every penny donated will be used to update one of the old bunk houses into a fully functioning guest space (the inn is full here at the ranch without adding this space) and get alternative storage for the tools in that bunk house that I make my living with and to facilitate her safety in Denver upon her release until we can go get her and bring her to the ranch. Stress nearly killed her, and with a resectioned stomach and a pile of stress waiting for her when she is finally released from the hospital, the prognosis is not good. This is the surface of her medical issues, after spinal surgeries and nearly dying of sepsis put her in this situation to begin with. I AM BEGGING YOU. We have saved horses, dogs, cats, pigs, goats and more together. Now I am begging you to help me save this beautiful sweet woman from literal hell on earth and protect her life so she can heal. I can’t lose Erin. That’s too much cruelty and unfairness to face. PLEASE HELP. WE ARE A TAX DEDUCTIBLE 501c3. The goal is at least $5000 to get through her release and safe transport to the ranch and into a comfortable and functional tiny home type space as fast as possible. We may need to pay a month of rent in Denver for her if she’s too medically fragile to make the move right away.

09/09/2025

I’ve tried to not be ruined by what man has begun to routinely do to the horse. I’ve tried to not be stricken with rage and grief and pure hatred for what many have made of rescue. Once the greatest refuge and short stop on cruelty and heartlessness for all animals, now so much of it is a scam, enriching vile performance artists and in turn enriching the kill buyers and auction houses that are the greatest purveyors of equine suffering and desperation. If they truly cared, would they not get between the owners and the auction houses? Would they not take those millions of dollars and go to the Amish or any other horrificly immoral group or individual pumping tragically, neglected, and overused horses into auction houses, and just buy them directly instead of lining the pockets of evil absolute? Instead, they’ve made a business deal with the devil himself, and they are all much richer as a result. Netting sometimes over $100,000 in donations per horse, and most of the time, not even being able to tell those donors where that animal went in the end. Plenty of those same horses have been found at those same auction lots being circulated back into the system after they were used to cheat people out of money, exploiting, the few remaining shreds of empathy and compassion left for horses, while good rescues doing hard work sit forgotten. So that I did not collapse into insanity and hopelessness, I have stepped away and will quietly work whatever cases I can. I will speak out against the ignorance, foolishness, and corruption that rescue has become. I will call out donors for their misplaced empathy, gullible nature, and thoughtless support of something far worse than anything that came before their dollar was misplaced. That’s the best I can do, and still remain whole. Maybe someday, the truth, integrity, logic and reality will become valuable to others again.

This haunting photograph from 1899 shows Friedrich Nietzsche in a mental asylum, nearly a decade after the collapse that silenced one of philosophy’s most provocative voices. Once a giant of thought, he spent his final years consumed by frailty, unable to continue shaping the ideas that had stirred generations. The image captures not triumph, but the fragility that overtook brilliance.

The unraveling began on January 3, 1889, in Turin, Italy. As the story goes, Nietzsche saw a carriage driver mercilessly whipping a horse. Stricken with emotion, he rushed forward, embraced the animal, and kissed it with tears in his eyes. Moments later, he fell into collapse, a turning point from which he would never return.

The tale of Nietzsche and the horse endures as one of history’s most haunting symbols: a philosopher who wrote of will and strength undone by a sudden flood of compassion. It lingers as a reminder that even the most unyielding minds are bound by human tenderness, and that his tragic fall closed the life of one of philosophy’s most enduring figures.
