Tomorrow is a big day for our boy Bruce. ❤️‍🩹🐾

Tomorrow, August 18th, Bruce will undergo surgery to remove the tumor that has continued to grow, bleed, and become increasingly difficult for him.

This isn't an easy decision. Bruce has a heart condition that makes anesthesia and surgery more risky, but we're at a crossroads. The hemangiosarcoma is getting worse, and doing nothing isn't an option. So we are choosing to give Bruce the chance he deserves. 🙏🏻

We are asking our Safe Hands family, friends, and supporters to please keep Bruce in your prayers tomorrow. Pray for a safe surgery, steady heart, skilled hands, and a smooth recovery. ❤️

We have raised a little over HALF of the estimated cost of his surgery, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped get us this far. But we still have a ways to go.

If you would like to help with Bruce's surgery, donations can be made through the Zeffy link included here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/life-saving-surgery-for-bruce

or you can call Coronado Veterinary Hospital directly at 520-378-0911 and make a payment toward Bruce's tumor removal surgery (with Safe Hands Sanctuary) scheduled for August 18th.

Every prayer. Every share. Every $5. Every $50. Every act of kindness matters.

Please stand with Bruce tomorrow. He has fought so hard, and we're going to fight right alongside him. 🐾❤️

🐴 WILD HORSES GET A REPRIEVE AS FEDERAL JUDGE BLOCKS PLANNED ROUNDUP

For now, hundreds of wild horses along the California-Nevada border will remain where they are — on the range.

On July 8, 2026, U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb of the Eastern District of California granted a preliminary injunction preventing the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) from moving forward with a planned September roundup of 856 wild horses across three Herd Management Areas.

The proposed gathers involved 470 horses from Carter Reservoir HMA, 273 from Buckhorn HMA and 113 from Coppersmith HMA. Together, the three areas cover approximately 196,181 acres along the California-Nevada border.

The legal challenge was brought by Carter Reservoir Mustangs Inc. and Wild Horse Education, alongside individual wild horse advocates.

The plaintiffs argued that the BLM's plans violated the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971 as well as the Administrative Procedure Act.

A central issue in the case was how the BLM determined that the horse populations were growing.

Judge Shubb found that the agency had likely acted arbitrarily by relying on an assumed annual population growth rate, despite information contained within its own 2025 Environmental Assessment showing that actual growth rates among these herds had differed significantly from that assumption over a 15-year period — with population growth even running negative in a number of years.

The court was also unconvinced by later explanations concerning issues such as dehydration and damage to the range, describing those arguments as post-hoc rationalisations.

However, this isn't the end of the legal battle.

⚖️ The ruling concerns a preliminary injunction, meaning the planned roundup has been stopped while the wider case continues. The court has not yet issued a final ruling on the underlying lawsuit.

Darice Massey, president of Carter Reservoir Mustangs, has spent decades documenting these wild horses and says she knows individual animals by name.

For the advocates fighting to keep them wild, the ruling represents an important moment.

Hey everyone,

We’ve raised a little over half of Bruce’s surgery cost, which is coming up this Tuesday. ❤️

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has supported so far. We are incredibly grateful for every donation, share, prayer, and kind word.

We are now just $840 short of reaching our goal for his estimated surgery cost.

If you haven’t donated yet and are able to, every single donation matters — whether it’s $5 or $500. Every bit gets us closer to getting Bruce the care he needs. You can donate via the link here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/life-saving-surgery-for-bruce
or if you prefer, you can make a donation directly to Coronado Veterinary Hospital 520-378-0911. When you call in make sure to tell them you would like to make a payment towards Bruce with Safe Hands Sanctuary tumor removal surgery that is on Tuesday August, 18th.

If you’re unable to donate, that’s completely okay. ❤️ We simply ask that you take a moment to share this post. The more people who see Bruce’s story, the better chance we have of raising the remaining funds before Tuesday.

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU, community. 🐾❤️

We want nothing more than to see Bruce comfortable, happy, and enjoying his days. We’re praying this surgery gives him that opportunity for the rest of his days. 🙏🏼
