If you should ever be a Mini Grant recipient, here’s a tip that can help make the reimbursement process go more smoothly.

Be sure to keep copies of all project documentation, including invoices, receipts, canceled checks, credit card receipts, and other proof of payment.

State reimbursement programs require documentation showing that project expenses have been paid before grant funds can be released. Keeping these records organized throughout your project can help prevent delays when it’s time to request reimbursement.

We’re grateful that state grant programs require this level of documentation and transparency. These safeguards help ensure public funds are used as intended and help maintain the integrity of the program for years to come.

As we work through our first Mini Grant cycle, we’re learning alongside our applicants and sharing what we learn to help make future rounds even smoother.

Thank you to all of our grant recipients for your patience and partnership throughout the process.

One of the things we love about downtown is that there’s always something new to notice.

A piece of history. A unique detail. A splash of color tucked away where you least expect it.

Rainy days are perfect for planning your next downtown stroll.

The Harrison Main Street District includes more than just the historic downtown square. The district stretches through key commercial corridors, surrounding downtown blocks, portions of Highway 7 South, and areas connected by the creek corridor.

The boundaries were designed to include the heart of downtown Harrison while also supporting the businesses, buildings, public spaces, and connections that help keep downtown active, welcoming, and growing.

If you’ve ever wondered whether a business or property is part of the Main Street District, this map gives a better look at the full area we serve.

And don’t forget. Some of the best discoveries downtown happen just off the square.

Thinking about making improvements to your downtown property? Main Street mini grants can be a great opportunity to help bring those ideas to life.

A few things to know upfront: these are matching grants, funding is limited, and because downtown Harrison is part of a Certified Local Government district, downtown improvement projects go through the Historic District Commission approval process.

The next round of mini grant opportunities is expected to open in late summer, so if you’ve been thinking about signage, exterior improvements, façade updates, or other eligible projects, now’s a great time to start planning.

We’ll share details when the next application round opens.

Behind every strong downtown is a group of people who care deeply about its future. 🤗

Meet Donna Braymer, the first in Main Street Harrison’s Meet the Board series.

Donna has spent decades serving this community, including 25 years at the Harrison Daily Times, 15 years on the Harrison School Board, and now in the Mayor’s office.

After more than 40 years in Harrison, her love for community and downtown runs deep. In fact, that love started long ago with childhood shopping trips with her grandparents and matching red cowgirl hats.

Today, we remember.

In the heart of downtown, this memorial stands as a reminder that freedom has come at a great cost.

This Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

What exactly does Main Street do?

That’s a fair question because unless you’ve worked with a Main Street program before, the name alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

Main Street’s job is to strengthen downtown as a whole through four key areas:

Design . preserving historic character, supporting beautification, and helping create spaces people want to spend time in
Promotion . creating district-wide initiatives and reasons for people to spend time downtown
Economic Vitality . supporting a healthy business district and long-term investment
Organization . building partnerships, volunteers, leadership, and momentum behind the scenes

That means you’ll see us celebrating facade improvements, ribbon cuttings, beautification efforts, architecture, downtown milestones, and the stories that reflect progress across downtown.

Main Street works to strengthen the entire downtown district because a stronger downtown benefits everyone.

This is why facade improvements matter.

Fresh updates help buildings look cared for, welcoming, and ready for what’s next. Seeing projects take shape like this is exciting for downtown’s continued momentum.

Still more to come on this one, but wow, what a difference already.

Gray skies. Muggy air. Downtown still has its charm.
