Flooding in New England and particularly Vermont is becoming more prevalent. Want to know why? Ask Professor Frank J. Magilligan, Professor of Geography, Emeritus, at Dartmouth College. Professor Magilligan led Rotarians through environmental and other factors accelerating floods in recent years, highlighting the impact of Hurricane Irene that ravaged eastern Vermont in the late summer 2011. Thank you, Professor Magilligan for a wonderful presentation at our Rotary lunch earlier this week.

Hanover Rotary proudly supported The Prouty again this year by organizing the official SAG (Stop and Go) support station at the Dartmouth Skiway located at mile 28 of the 52-mile gravel bike race. Rotarians Bruce Atwood, Paul Foster, Dick Booma, Nan Carroll and Jim Bonney cheered on the racers with help from a team of enthusiastic Dartmouth Ski Patrollers. This year's Prouty raised over $12 million to fund cancer research and patient support at the Dartmouth Cancer Center at DHMC. Service Above Self!

Casper will be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott AZ to study to become a pilot. Special thanks to Rotarian Heidi Postupak for chairing the scholarship selection committee. At our most recent lunch meeting, Hanover Rotarians heard from Professor Nicholas Christakis about issues addressed in his book “Blueprint: The Evolutionary Origins of a Good Society.” Professor Christakis is an American sociologist and physician and a Sterling Professor at Yale, the highest honor bestowed on Yale faculty. Thank you Professor Christakis for your thought provoking lecture!
