As fall is now upon us, it's fun to reminisce on our summer adventures:

Camp Yawgoog: The weather tested them, but our Scouts powered through! Despite some seriously red skies in the mornings, they kept busy — catching a ton of fish, completing 36 merit badges, and making plenty of memories. And because no camp is complete without a little ridiculousness, one of our fearless leaders even entered the cannonball contest… in a hot dog suit.

Camp Sequassen: This week had a smaller crew of wood ducks but they made a BIG impression. Our Scouts podiumed in every competition they entered, including Sequassen’s traditional Conquistadors and Fire Bucket Challenges. They quickly became known at roll call for one very important skill: duck calls. And we only had one bear try to join our troop.

Troop 444 was proud to take part in Guilford’s God & Country celebration and parade this weekend and last — joining neighbors, veterans, families, and community organizations in traditions, old and new, that connect generations.

For our Scouts, being part of events like these is about more than marching down the street. It’s about showing up for our community, honoring the traditions that came before us, and helping carry new ones forward. We’re proud to see our Scouts out there, representing Troop 444 and being an active part of the town we call home.

Troop 444 had a blast clamming and making authentic New England Clam Chowder at Chaffinch Island Park. Special thanks to the Guilford Shellfish Commission for all their hard work and stewardship!

🛶 Last week Troop 444 started the summer with a 4.5 mile canoe trip down the East River and a campout on Jacob’s Beach!

The weather was perfect, the Scouts made their meals at the beach, and they built a bonfire for s’mores. No better way to launch the summer!

The Quiet Force Behind Troop 444, Mr Dietz:

While the public marveled at the rope bridge during our Strawberry Social, few probably realized it was Mr Dietz’s decades of Scouting knowledge that helped make it happen.

Mr Dietz has spent more than 45 years in Scouting, 35 years of those as a leader! Long after his own sons aged out of the program, he continues to regularly show up for Troop 444 teaching knots, demonstrating the EDGE method, mentoring youth leaders, and sharing the skills that can’t be learned by reading the handbook alone.

Thank you for all you do, Mr Dietz. The troop is stronger because of you! ⚜️

🍓 Thank you, Guilford, for another great Strawberry Social!

We were overwhelmed by the support shown for our Scouts and the school jazz bands, and we loved seeing neighbors, friends, and families come together to enjoy a beautiful day on the Green.

One of the highlights was hearing so many stories about Strawberry Socials from years gone by and memories of Scouting in our town. Those conversations reminded us how special these traditions are and how they connect generations of community members.
