Today we remember the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for America.

On Saturday, Troop 444 assisted the VFW in laying flags at the graves of Guilford’s veterans. This small act of service reminds us that freedom is never free.

Last weekend, Troop 444 took part in America's Semiquincentennial Camporee at Camp Workcoeman!

Scouts completed 12 different challenges to help gather intel for General Washington in his fight for independence. The adults also participated, but as loyalists(!), to decode Benedict Arnold's cipher.

When they weren’t busy fighting for freedom, our Scouts were cooking up meals the Continental Army would’ve happily traded rations for.

The boys brought the energy. The leaders brought 30-year-old hacky sack muscle memory. Because sometimes the traditions passed down at Scout meetings involve camping skills… and sometimes they involve hacky sack circles.

Invasives don't stand a chance with this crew!

Troop 444 combined forces with the Guilford Land Conservation Trust to identify and terminate a number of invasive plants that are a challenge on many trails around town. Our Scouts came armed with shovels, hammers, clippers, and more. The prickers, poison ivy, and ticks did not deter this determined group!

The troop is enthusiastic to continue the hard work so keep an eye out for your friendly neighborhood Scouts.

BSA Troop 444 participated in the West Point Camporee at the beginning of the month. Scouts survived ranger training that included army crawling through wood chips, hand gr***de familiarization, and tracking enemies in camouflage through the bush.

They were treated to the biggest bonfire they've ever seen and were able to handle tactical gear that the army actually uses.

It was an incredible experience and we are so grateful to the West Point cadets that put it on!

Troop 444 spent the weekend on 12–14 inches of solid ice, ice fishing, and proudly cooking the trout we caught. In between checking tip ups, we trudged through deep snow on our hike — then made up for it by "sledding" across the ice, where friction is optional.

In a bold display of “earning it the hard way,” we even dug a snow shelter so our resident recent Eagle Scout could sleep in it.

It looks like we’ve got about 12–14+ inches again… except this time it’s on top of the ice instead of under our boots.

Last weekend our Scouts took on Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire, hiking to the 3,165-foot peak in freezing temperatures, driving snow, and icy trails. They pushed through whiteout conditions at the summit, crampons on and balaclavas tight.

We're well prepared. Bring it on, Benjamin! ⛰️❄️⚜️

In December, Scouts headed to Rockland Preserve for a winter camp out that put their skills and stamina to the test.

The Scouts completed a 6+ mile hike, practiced cold weather camping techniques, and stayed warm around their ever roaring fire. Experiences like this build resilience, teamwork, and confidence— especially as they prep for an even more challenging winter camping trip to NH next week!
