We are excited to share what’s next for Sound Life Connections and The WAVE!
Sound Life Connections is affiliating with Aspire Living & Learning to expand opportunities for young adults with disabilities along the Connecticut shoreline and help build a new approach to transition and adult services right here in Guilford.
In a very short time, our Sound Life and WAVE community has grown beyond what we could have imagined. Together, we have created opportunities for young adults to work, learn, build friendships, develop independence, and become more connected to their community. We are incredibly grateful to our participants, families, staff, volunteers, local businesses, and community partners who have believed in our mission and helped make that growth possible.
Now, we are building on that foundation.
Our goal is simple but important: to help young adults with disabilities create the lives THEY want to live.
Guided by the principle “Nothing About Us Without Us,”this new program is being designed with—not simply for—the people it will serve. We will build upon what we have learned through Sound Life Connections and The WAVE while actively including participants and families in shaping the services, opportunities, and supports they tell us they need.
The new Guilford program will focus on meaningful employment and internships, independent living and community skills, self-advocacy and self-determination, health and wellness, social connection, and the supports needed to help young adults move from school into fulfilling adult lives.
And we can’t do it without our community.
If you are a local business interested in providing an internship, employment opportunity, job exploration experience, or other partnership, we would love to hear from you. Creating meaningful pathways to employment takes a community of businesses willing to open doors and recognize the talents young adults with disabilities bring to the workplace.
We are incredibly proud of what we have built together—and even more excited about what comes next.
Stay tuned as we share more about the new program, partnerships, and opportunities ahead!
Interested in learning more, participating, or partnering with us? Please reach out—we would love to connect.
The program is being led by a former Guilford Public Schools special education teacher. | Link in comments ⬇️
