Our conference began with a walking tour of Reading, lead by Michelle Smith, Deputy City Clerk and Bethany Ayers Fisher, Sustainability Manager, City of Reading Public Works. The walking tour started off with the "Reading is Ours" mural, painted by Andrew Pochan, at GoggleWorks, then continued on to tour 10+ more art installations and murals around the city. Participants got to hear and see the significance of urban art in the community while also hearing about ongoing programs and initiatives Reading takes to keep their community clean, vibrant, and beautiful.

Spotlight on our Young Ambassador Alum: Quinn
"On a crisp autumn day with plentiful sunshine, Coulter led the group along Green Hill’s meandering lanes. He pointed out various trees, offering facts and interesting stories about each species origins. One of the first trees highlighted was the Norway Spruce, which is Green Hill’s signature species, with over 70 trees thriving in the cemetery." Last week we had two Young Ambassador alumnae join us for a panel discussion “Youth Rising: Next Generation Leaders in Nature, Community, and Equity”. Ryana and Anvitha discussed how organizations can effectively engage youth in their mission, what motivates them to get involved with civic and environmental organizations and their passions and hopes for the future. With students and leaders like Ryana and Anvitha, our future is bright!

Last week, we had a fantastic conference in Reading, PA, with significant support from our affiliate Keep Reading Beautiful (City Of Reading, PA - Government)! A few highlights include hearing from Jessica Shirley, Secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and our Keynote speaker, Keith Green, Vice President of Healthy Neighborhoods, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, hosting our second Affiliate Shark Tank contest, and bringing together so many friends and colleagues that are keeping Pennsylvania beautiful!
Our conference could not have been possible without our sponsors and supporters, a special thanks to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau, Berks County Community Foundation, the Foundation for PA Watersheds, Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, Green Building Alliance, Penske, and everyone who joined us in celebrating.
