Connellsville youth is on the move at P.E. in the Park!

The Westmoreland/Frick Hospital Foundation recently donated sports and outdoor equipment, sunscreen, and healthy snacks for campers at P.E. in the Park located at East Park in Connellsville. P.E. in the Park is a four week summer physical education camp that keeps kids active, builds confidence, and encourages friendship through games, fitness, and movement.

We had the opportunity to meet one of the camp counselors who participated in the program as a child. He shared how the experience taught him the importance of teamwork and respecting others, and he is now giving back by helping create those same meaningful experiences for the new generation of campers.

Ashley McCutcheon-Saylor directs this important summer camp program and is dedicated to harnessing the campers' exceptional energy for all of the fun activities.

Teaching children that movement is medicine is priceless!

Yesterday, the Westmoreland/Frick Hospital Foundation hosted a cocktail reception focused on leadership insights and the future of healthcare in our region.

Community leaders, legislators, higher educational institutions, system physicians, Westmoreland/Frick Hospital board members, and past Independence Health System board members all gathered, to once again, commit to the patient first and always culture that prevails regardless of our name.

Guests had the opportunity to hear from Ken DeFurio, President & CEO; Brian Fritz, President of Frick, Latrobe and Westmoreland Hospital; Dr. Mary Elizabeth Kovacik Eicher, Associate Chief Medical Officer, and Anthony Cancro, Chief Development Officer.

The reception reflected the core healing values that tie us together as clinicians, administrators, community leaders, and grateful patients. The Westmoreland/Frick Hospital Foundation would like to thank all who attended the event.

An unforgettable evening commemorating 50 years of healthcare excellence at Westmoreland Hospital! The room was filled with old friends and new friends, all coming together for one night - one great cause!

The Westmoreland/Frick Hospital Foundation's Black Tie for Hearts Gala was held on Saturday, March 21st, 2026 at the Greensburg Country Club. The evening featured fast-paced casino games, great prizes, music, cocktails, and exceptional food. Independence Health System's past and present leadership were all on hand to celebrate with a champagne toast sponsored by the Charley Family.

Proceeds from this year's event will directly support the addition of a fifth hybrid electrophysiology (EP) lab at Westmoreland Hospital, continuing excellence in cardiology and ensuring access to state-of-the art care for patients and families.

New Season, New Beginnings for our Newborns at Westmoreland Hospital with our new Halo BassiNests!

The Westmoreland/Frick Hospital Foundation proudly supported the Family Additions Maternity Center at Westmoreland Hospital with the purchase of Halo BassiNests to welcome all of our newborns.

A Halo BassiNest is able to provide a safe place for a newborn baby to sleep and rest directly next to the mother's hospital bed without the mother having to be separated across the room from her newborn. The mother can stay close within arms reach of the baby, allowing for close monitoring and support of safe sleep practices.

We are immensely proud of our Family Additions Maternity Center at Westmoreland Hospital that proudly delivers 53% of all babies born in Westmoreland County and has received many recent accolades and awards in 2026 to include:

* Cribs for Kids® Infant Safe Sleep Hospital Certification

* Westmoreland Hospital Named High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care and Maternity Care Access Hospital by U.S. News & World Report
