While going through a box of old books, I came across an editorial that someone had written a North Carolina newspaper. The writer of the editorial was clearly a Christian believer, and his brief article warned that colleges were turning out “liberal atheists, who scorn morality and have no patriotism for America.”
The writer went on with his warning that if the trends toward secularism did not turn around, America would someday fall to “godless socialism.” The writer urged, “pastors, laity, and all patriots to do what they could to, “save our country, in name of Jesus.”
Can you guess the date of this print piece I found? It sounds pretty current (especially the warnings about socialism), and point by point contained my exact sentiments. The year was . . . 1980.
