FROM STRONG WINDS TO STILL WATERS
Six classes. New skills. New friendships. Plenty of lessons along the way. ⛵

The last two nights of our Basic Sailing course reminded us that sailing is as much about character as it is about skill.

Early in each session, strong winds challenged our skippers to be confident leaders, make quick decisions, and trust what they had learned. By the end of the evening, the wind all but disappeared, creating a different challenge altogether - patience.

The six-session course wraps up this week, and one of the best parts of programs like this is watching relationships develop alongside sailing skills. As participants gained confidence on the water, they also gained new friendships. It was great to see several exchanging phone numbers before heading home.

Learning to sail is rewarding. Sharing the experience with new friends makes it even better. ⛵

WELCOME MADELINE

Please join us in welcoming Madeline to the Green Bay Sail & Paddle team as a Junior Instructor!

Madeline is 14 years old and will be a freshman this fall at Pulaski Community High School. Her favorite subjects are French, math, and English, and she stays active as a member of both the school band, where she plays trumpet, and the swimming team.

Although this is Madeline's first year with Green Bay Sail & Paddle, she is no stranger to the water. She has been sailing with her parents for years and is excited to share her enthusiasm for sailing with others.

When she's not on the water, Madeline enjoys reading and crocheting.

We're excited to have her energy, enthusiasm, and love of learning as part of our instructor team this summer. Be sure to say hello when you see her at the waterfront!

STEM CAMP IS UNDERWAY AT GREEN BAY SAIL & PADDLE

We kicked off the week yesterday with 12 students, ages 9–13, eager to learn and explore. During introductions, we asked everyone about their favorite school subject. The answer surprised us - 8 of the 12 students said math!

Looks like they found the right place. 😊

Our campers spent an awesome day on the water enjoying steady winds, learning the fundamentals of sailing, and building confidence. For many, it was their very first time on a sailboat.

The adventure continues through Friday, with camp running daily from 1 - 4:30pm. We can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings!

BASIC REALLY IS MUCH MORE

Our Basic Sailing course started this week with six three-hour sessions focused on building skills step-by-step.

On Monday evening, our group of 14 participants got underway with the fundamentals - learning the parts of the boat, steering, and other introductory skills, as well as getting out on the water to sail.

Tonight’s session - following a brief weather delay - had the group back on the water practicing an important safety skill: capsize recovery. While it may sound dramatic, the drill is a valuable part of training, helping sailors build confidence and understand exactly what to do if they ever find themselves in that situation.

Strong work from a committed group - they’ll be back on the water again tomorrow night, and finish up next week with three more three-hour sessions.
