With my "expiration date" as the Senior Pastor at Mountain View Church being this next Sunday, August 31st, this will be the final Discussion Guide that I will be preparing and making available on a regular basis. I hope that some have found these discussion guides helpful -- but we know that what matters most and what is most helpful is God's Word. May we seek to know it and pray for God's help in obeying it. --Pastor Bruce

As my "expiration date" as the Senior Pastor at Mountain View approaches, I have chosen to preach this next Sunday on one of my favorite passages in the Bible -- one that contains a summary of the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ! May God use His Word to bring those outside of faith in Christ to saving faith and may He use it to stir those of us who already believe to greater faithfulness! --Pastor Bruce

Hope to see you there!

Many people want to believe that if they try hard enough or if they are good enough, they will be "OK" with God when their life here on this earth is over. Unfortunately for such people, God's Word (the Bible) makes it clear that God does not grade on a curve nor is entrance into His presence based on our effort. The verses we are focusing on this week at Mountain View Church inform (and remind) us of this reality. And, they tell us what God has done for us and what our response to His grace should be. If you are able to worship with us in person this next Sunday, we will have the opportunity to hear an update from one of the missionaries we support. --Pastor Bruce

When was the last time you worried about what you might eat -- because you really didn't have anything to eat? When was the last time you worried about having something to wear (because you had nothing to wear -- not because you simply didn't like what you had)? While we might not worry about these basics of life, there are so many other things that we could worry about! But, as we are reminded in Matthew 6:25-34, worry accomplishes nothing and is not appropriate for those whose faith is in Christ. May what Jesus taught in today's text encourage us to live with greater trust in Him! --Bruce

This week we journey back to the Old Testament book of Psalms to consider one of the many places in Scripture that speak about being thankful and to Whom we should give our thanks. The 92nd Psalm in the third "song" in the fourth "book" or "division" of the Psalms. And if you would like to appreciate it more than you might from studying it alone, you might consider reading and thinking about Psalms 90 & 91 before studying Psalm 92! --Pastor Bruce

This week we come to the end of our journey through the Apostle Paul's letter to his fellow Christians living in the Macedonian city of Philippi -- part of the Roman Empire. Like the rest of God's word, what God has for us in this letter is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and training in righteousness -- so that those of us who are believers and followers of Jesus might be equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). May we never think we have arrived but continue to want to be reminded of what God has told us so that we might, with His help & by His grace, become more and more the people He wants us to be! --Pastor Bruce

Ah, the "power of positive thinking"! Actually there is nothing ultimately powerful about it if our positive thinking is relying on our own wisdom, feelings, desires and abilities. Our positive thinking can be based on false assumptions about what is good and what we are capable of doing (or should do). In Philippians 4:8-9 we learn (or are reminded) a bit about how God wants us to think and what our right thinking should lead to (doing what is right in God's eyes).
This Sunday at Mountain View we are looking forward not only to a good time of worship through song and worship in the Word, but one of our missionary families will be sharing with us at the very beginning of each worship service!
