What is a PTA? The Parent Teacher Association or PTA began when two women decided that the children of America needed a voice. Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst sent out a call to action and anticipated that maybe 200 mothers would respond. However, on February 17, 1897, more than 2000 mothers, fathers, teachers, workers, and politicians gathered for the very first PTA meeting. After setting by-laws and marking out areas that needed to be addressed, the group began its quest for children’s safety, health, and productive futures. Other programs started by the founders of the PTA include:

* The hot lunch program
* A public health program
* Mandatory immunizations for school children
* Physical education classes in public schools
* Sex education for pre-teens
* Increased wages for teachers

Today the PTA continues its fight for children health, safety, and education in our local schools and communities, in the political arena, and throughout the world. PTA members help parents learn the skills they need to raise happy confident children. There are local PTA programs in every level of the public school system; including pre-schools, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools as well as special education schools and programs. All of which work tirelessly to bring home and school closer together, so that parents can take an active roll in their children's education and future.

GMS PTA has a 2 wonderful opportunities for our Pony families to spread a little extra love this Thanksgiving season!

🦃🍽️ 1. STAFF THANKSGIVING LUNCHEON | NOVEMBER 20th

Our incredible GMS teachers and staff give so much to our students every single day. Now it's OUR turn to show them just how thankful we are!

GMS PTA is hosting a Thanksgiving Potluck Luncheon to celebrate our amazing teachers and staff, and we need our Pony families to help make it extra special!

🍗 PTA is providing the turkey and ham!

🥧 We need families to bring the Thanksgiving favorites!
- Delicious side dishes and casseroles
- Fresh salads and dinner rolls
- Pies, cookies, and desserts
- Your family's favorite Thanksgiving recipes!

A little seasoning can make a BIG difference! ❤️

GMS PTA is proudly partnering with the GCISD Council of PTAs and fellow GCISD PTAs to support GRACE and help local families prepare delicious Thanksgiving meals, holiday favorites, and everyday dinners.

🎯 GMS HAS BEEN ASSIGNED SPICES & SEASONINGS!

We're asking our Pony families to help us stock the shelves with:

🧂 Salt and black pepper

🧄 Garlic powder and onion powder

🌶️ Paprika, chili powder, and cumin

🌿 Italian seasoning and poultry seasoning

🍃 Sage, thyme, and rosemary

🥧 Cinnamon and nutmeg

🌮 Taco, fajita, and gravy seasoning packets

📍 DROP-OFF LOCATION: GMS Front Office, designated PTA collection bin

📅 COLLECTION DATES:November 4–20

🚨 IMPORTANT: All donations must be NEW and UNOPENED! Please do not donate previously opened or used containers.

Whether you donate one seasoning or an entire bag, every contribution helps bring flavor, comfort, and a little extra joy to a family's table this season.

The clock is ticking, and we don't want anyone to miss their chance to participate in this year's **PTA Reflections Program!

Whether your student loves to draw, paint, write, dance, take photographs, create music, or produce films, this is their opportunity to let their creativity shine! 🌟

📣 IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please make sure ALL Reflections entries are completed and submitted before the October 31st deadline!

Don't wait until the last minute! Double-check those submissions and make sure your student's hard work gets the recognition it deserves.

No experience necessary. No baking required. Questionable dance moves highly encouraged.

Get ready for an exciting Red Ribbon Week! This year, students can participate in our Red Ribbon Week Scavenger Hunt. Students will follow clues hidden around the school for a chance to win some awesome prizes, all handed out by our wonderful SRO, Officer Trinidad! 🕵️‍♂️🎁

Parents, please join us for our Parent Insight Talk with Officer Trinidad on Thursday, October 29th at 5:00 PM in the cafeteria. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect, ask questions, and gain valuable insights on student safety and wellness. We hope to see you there!
