One of the greatest joys of life on the KIDD Forever farm is that every day brings a new surprise. Sometimes it's an empty nest box, a new hatchling, unexpected visitors, or signs that wildlife has been quietly going about its business while we weren't looking.

Every discovery is a chance to learn, ask questions, and appreciate the amazing world around us. We never know what we'll find next, and that's part of the adventure!

Learning doesn't always happen in a classroom.

Sometimes it happens in a chicken coop.

Tommy spent time helping care for the chickens while learning about the foods they enjoy and how their diet can affect the eggs they produce.

What may seem like a simple activity is actually something much bigger.

It's an opportunity to explore.

For many autistic adults and adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, opportunities for hands-on learning can be limited.

At KIDD Forever, we believe learning should be active, engaging, and connected to real life.
Whether it's caring for animals, helping with projects, or discovering something new, every experience is an opportunity to grow.

Sometimes connection doesn’t begin with people.

Sometimes it begins with a horse. 🐴

Naveed spent time learning how to feed one of the horses with support from Adam and Jeff.

There was no pressure.

No rush.

Just curiosity, patience, and a chance to build trust.

For many autistic adults and adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, animals can become a bridge to connection.

They offer companionship without expectations and create opportunities to engage with the world in a way that feels safe and meaningful.

After spending time with the animals, we asked Naveed which one he liked best.

His answer: the horse.

Moments like these build confidence and create connection.

They help people feel seen, included, and valued.

Planting. Digging. Growing. Harvesting.

This is more than farm work.

At KIDD Forever, adults with IDD are not working to make someone rich or simply to stay busy. They are engaged in meaningful work rooted in nature, contribution, connection, and purpose.

Hands in the soil. Seeds being planted. Relationships being built.

Working alongside peers and volunteers, participants experience the satisfaction of real work, authentic community, and the joy of returning later to harvest what they planted with their own hands.

The vegetables matter, but what grows here is much bigger than food.

Confidence. Ownership. Pride. Friendship. Belonging.

We believe adults with IDD deserve opportunities to contribute in real, tangible, fulfilling ways, not through artificial activities, but through experiences that matter, where their strengths, interests, and humanity can flourish.

Most adults with disabilities are rarely given opportunities like this.

Not because they aren’t interested.

Not because they aren’t capable.

But because too often, people assume they can’t.

Jacob had the opportunity to explore how a tractor works alongside Adam.

There was no pressure to perform.

No expectations.

Just curiosity, support, and space to learn.

At KIDD Forever, we believe meaningful experiences matter.

Sometimes growth starts with something as simple as being invited to participate.

With Kayla and Tommy, we focus on independence and task ownership. These skills grow through opportunity, trust, and meaningful engagement. We assume agency first and step in to support only when needed. Most importantly, we pay attention to whether participants are having fun, because fun is not separate from learning. Fun can be productive. Engagement is often where confidence, independence, creativity, and important life skills develop naturally.

There is always meaningful work to be done on the farm! If you want to help KIDD Forever grow and serve more people in our community, we would love to have you involved.

For many autistic adults and individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, social connection can be difficult to access and maintain.

Not because they don’t want friendship or community…

But because meaningful opportunities for connection are often limited.

One of our volunteers, Jeff, helped create space for conversation, interaction, and connection between two of our KIDDos.

Sometimes support looks like:
• slowing things down
• helping conversations flow
• creating a safe environment
• making connection feel possible

That’s what we’re building at KIDD Forever.

Today Nigel did something nobody taught him to do.
No hand-over-hand instruction. No step-by-step prompting. No training plan.
He simply took the bottle and fed a baby goat.

Nigel is 25, an adult with IDD and high support needs. So often, people like him are viewed through the lens of what they need to be taught, what they can’t do yet, or how much support they require.

But what if, sometimes, our expectations are the limitation?

Watching him, I saw more than feeding a baby goat. I saw joy. Confidence. Creativity. Calm. Connection. He laughed. He relaxed. He found his own way.

This is an important reminder for me. We may underestimate the capabilities of people with IDD when we assume learning must always come through intensive teaching, hand-over-hand instruction, or constant correction.

Support matters. Encouragement matters. But so does space.

Space to explore, discover, try, connect, and surprise us.
This gentle, relationship-centered approach is at the heart of what we're building with KIDD Forever.

Sometimes, they don’t need us to show them every step.
Sometimes… they just do it.
