One of our Program Coordinators, Hailey, recently shared this meaningful moment from a visit at VALLEYLIFE. 🩵
"At Valleylife, adult members with developmental disabilities work toward life skills and social participation goals in a supportive environment. Since introducing monthly Pawsitive Friendships visits earlier this year, members have had new opportunities to build connection, self-regulation, and engagement in a natural, motivating way.
For one member who often requires ongoing hand-under-hand support during activities, staff began noticing small but meaningful shifts during Pawsitive Friendships sessions.
During a recent session, that progress became especially clear.
With Ellie Mae, the Saint Bernard lying at his feet, the member made the decision to engage independently—without prompting or physical support. What stood out most wasn’t just the interaction itself, but the sustained engagement that followed. The member remained calm, regulated, and actively involved for several minutes, demonstrating a level of independence and focus not previously observed.
Through a consistent, low-pressure environment, Pawsitive Friendships builds confidence while supporting social participation and motor skill development—foundational skills that translate into greater independence in daily life. We are excited to see the members continue to reach their goals!"
