Friendship Star Quilters Guild 120-Member Quilt Guild based in Montgomery County, MD Our guild is incorporated to foster fellowship and support for beginning to advanced quilters. Some don’t.

We cover topics from piecing to applique, machine to hand quilting, etc. Please join us at our next meeting and identify yourself as a new visitor. The guild offers a monthly attendance fee for visitors to explore our guild. You can see if we fit your needs. At all meetings we ask for an admittance fee of $5. Ask for a receipt of your admittance fee. After the meeting, you can use the admittance fee against the cost of your annual dues if you choose to become a member. A typical guild meeting runs about 2 hours on the first Monday evening of the month. The first hour is devoted to business, announcements, and our speaker. Typically our speaker presents on a facet of quilting. Over the past years, we have covered topics as varied as nine patches, floral realism, crazy quilts, and log cabin blocks. The second hour is the raffling of the fabric of the month, and our show and tell of projects members are working on, a regular part of all guild meetings. The FSQ Quiltline newsletters can give you a sense of the activities of the guild. Friendship Star Quilters has about 120 members. As far as age goes, we cover a broad spectrum and welcome everyone. We have seniors, women who are holding down professional jobs, women who are in the early phase of raising a family, women whose kids are graduating from college, single and married women, and a few men too. Most of our members live in Maryland, but a few live in other states. Most of our members have access to the Internet for, at a minimum, e-mail. The level of quilting experience also varies with some members identifying themselves as new or beginning quilters, many as intermediate, and some as advanced quilters. Some quilters in the guild only make quilt tops by machine. Others only hand piece. Some quilt by machine. Some quilt by hand. Some follow patterns. Some create their own patterns and designs. Some applique. With almost all members, you are likely to find someone with interests similar to yours. Friendship Star Quilters, Inc. meets on the first* Monday of the month at 7:30 pm

Monday evening was turn-in for the guild's summer Challenge. Here are all the quilts set out for voting by the members.

The challenge was to include at least one friendship star block. All quilts turned in will be donated to the organizations we support. But before that, they will be on display at our quilt show in April of 2027.

"Diamond Cabana" was created by members of Friendship Star Quilters from a Louanna Mary Quilt Design pattern.

Our September 14th (2nd Monday) meeting will hybrid: In-Person (at the Rosborough Center at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg) and by Zoom. Social time 7-7:30.

Business portion of the meeting begins promptly at 7:30 and is followed by a presentation by our featured speaker. Following the presentation, members are invited to "show and tell" about recent projects.

Our speaker is Aynex Mercado https://www.aynexquilts.com/, who will present her lecture "Architecture in Quilts". She describes this as follows:
I have been making architecture quilts for over 15 years and exhibited them nationally. This lecture goes over my architectural quilts and how I make them. I'll show you my process in detail with many behind the scenes photos. I design and construct my quilts using foundation paper piecing and there may be a few tricks you can use in your own quilts.

We will be meeting at the Rosborough Center at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg. We have a social time from 7PM to 7:30, followed by a brief business meeting. Immediately after that, we will turn over the meeting to the program committee. Hope you can join us!
Our meeting will be in the community room of the Rosborough Center, which is where we held our quilt show and our March-June meetings. From the entrance at Odenhal Ave, after the guard station, continue through at the stop sign and the Rosborough center will be on your right. OR the staff at the guard station can direct you if you need further help. Please only park in spots that are not marked for residents.
A zoom link will be sent to members 2 or 3 days before the 4th.

The latest news:
The quilt was won by Beth Werrell who bought her ticket when we visited Faithful Circle. Carol Carrier sold the winning ticket.
The board approved donations of $350 to Manna Food and $350 to Comfort Cases for a total of $700.
The top ticket sellers were:
#1 – Maryjean Spencer 197 tickets
#2 – Ellen Robinson 182 tickets
#3 – Suma Glassman 131 tickets
Congratulations to all and thanks to members who participated in the fundraising as the guild uses the money from the raffle to help fund our programs and service projects. Special thanks to Karen Moss for doing ticket distribution & collection and Maryjean Spencer for her outstanding job getting our quilt out to so many different guilds.
Thank you to each of you that bought tickets! Be sure to use the Capital Quilts coupon on the back before 12/31/26. We appreciate their support so very much!
