The project to secure emergency dredging for the Little Wicomico River has taken another step forward. The Northern Neck Planning District Commission (NNPDC) announced that Docks of the Bay, based in White Stone, has been awarded the contract for the work.

Yesterday, Senior Tawny Bowis presented her research project, "Tangier Island: Establishing a Baseline for Microplastics Pollution," at the Virginia Sea Grant Coastal Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach. There were 30 poster presenters at the conference, all graduate students but her. This significant, original research was guided by the Virginia Insitute of Marine Science and NHS teacher Gary Dickens, with support by Tangier Cruises, her Aquaculture classmates, and NCPS. Congratulations Ms. Bowis on a job well done!

Everyone as heard about our key crew member for our Ghost Pot Program and his severe motorcycle accident in NOVA this spring. M Eric Knudsen had a chance to get out on our project boat and test out some our new technology we just installed. Sea legs are coming back.

UPDATE: JPA was approved, but Army Corp of Engineers and Maryland are still potentially planning assessments of this dredge.
