How could we ever pick just one photo of this guy to celebrate? Here are some of our favorite recent Sunshine moments. Some may recognize Sunshine from our outreach events, where he has helped many people appreciate and learn more about bats.

Ah, the perks of being a social creature. There's always somebatty ready to invade your bubble. πŸ¦‡πŸ¦‡

Cane is a type of bat called a Variable flying fox, while Boneyard is a Malayan flying fox. Both of these bat species are social, and will live in groups. As many of us can relate to, it is important to be able to communicate when part of a group. Bats can communicate to members of their colony in a number of ways, such as through their vocalizations, scent, or body language. Cane is using his body language (wing flaps) to let Boneyard know his boundaries!

A small (but mighty) wing stretch from Variable Flying Fox, Saya's, pup this afternoon to celebrate . πŸ¦‡β€

Here, you can see all 5 of this pup's fingers. Her thumb, which is that hook holding on to mom's wings, is the only finger not inside of the wing membrane. The other 4 fingers are those large bumps that are spreading across the end of her wing! πŸ–οΈ

We were so happy to receive this photo from UF Zoological Medicine showing Variable Flying Fox, Saya's, pup. Check out this very tiny moment! πŸ¦‡πŸ˜‹

Recently, one of our Variable Flying Fox moms, Saya, required an emergency C-section to safely deliver her pup. We’re happy to share that both mom and baby are doing well! ❀️

Because of the incredible support from our community, Lubee is able to provide specialized veterinary care (including emergency procedures like this when needed) along with daily care, enrichment, fresh produce, and everything our bats need to thrive. πŸ¦‡

This pup’s story began with an incredible team effort and now one supporter will become part of that story forever.

Anyone feeling a little curious for their ? Malayan Flying Fox pups, Batzie and Slugger, definitely seem to want a closer look at their enrchment! πŸ¦‡

People often ask us if the bats like to be pet. Because they are prey animals by nature, protecting their personal space is how they stay safe and comfortable. This enrichment is our creative way of giving "bat scratchies" on terms that are safe and comfortable for the bats. While some bats, like these girls, seem interested in the scratching, other bats are more interested in smelling the other bats on the end of the brush. Thank you to Lubee intern, Bayley, for sharing this special moment with us! πŸ¦‡β€

Did you know that you can check in on Chesa (and the rest of her group) any time, any day? The explore.org live camera in her habitat runs 24/7! If you look closer to the evening time here in FL, you may even catch a glimpse of some of the bats flying. πŸ¦‡
