Providing lifelong sanctuary to nearly 200 monkeys rescued from research labs, pet homes, and entertainment.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to giving primates the freedom, care, and dignity they deserve. Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary is located on 44 acres in Gainesville, Florida. We offer sanctuary for monkeys retired from research, ex-pets, or monkeys who have been confiscated. Jungle Friends is committed to advocacy on behalf of all captive primates, and to provide assistance to improve their circumstances in captivity wherever possible. While our immediate responsibility is to provide for the monkeys at our sanctuary, our mission is to engage the interest and support of our community. Every monkey retired from research, or rescued from a life of abuse or neglect becomes a part of our message that these beings are worthy of our efforts and must be included in our moral universe.

Some birthdays deserve a double celebration, even if we're a day late! 🥳

Happy 38th birthday to Xenon and 15th to Clementine, our October 12 birthday duo!

Xenon is the thoughtful problem-solver with a charming side, especially when his favorite caregivers are around.

Clementine has never needed help making her opinions known.

One is a clever, flirtatious gentleman, the other a spirited little force of nature.

We love that they each get to be themselves in a place where their individual personalities are celebrated.

Some birthdays celebrate a life. Charlotte’s also celebrates a legacy.

Our sweet Charlotte turns 33 today and there’s a special reason she holds such an important place in Jungle Friends history. She and her sister Samantha are lovingly known as the sanctuary’s “co-founders,” and inspired Kari to create our sanctuary.

Charlotte and Samantha were inseparable, sharing years of curiosity, love, adventure and companionship. After Samantha passed in 2017, Charlotte found a new friend in MonkMonk, and the two have built a beautiful bond of their own.

Someone tell Louie to save some room for birthday cake, because the Romeo of the Rainforest is turning 23! 🥳🐒

Louie has never been one to sit quietly on the sidelines. He and Dereka are both known for being a little wild and grabby, and Louie recently discovered that monkey bars and a piece of horse panel make an excellent trampoline. Naturally, he took full advantage of it.

Twenty-three years old and still finding new ways to keep life interesting. That sounds like Louie. ❤️

Harley thinks, “Why choose one when you can have two?”

Harley has come a long way with his diabetes management and receives daily insulin to help keep his numbers in check. It may not be his favorite part of the day, but thankfully, there are plenty of better moments to look forward to, especially when they involve snacks.

And judging by these photos, Harley intends to enjoy every last crumb. 😂

Happy Birthday, Fat Larry!

Once known for his love of lounging and snacks, Larry has had quite the glow-up! Now affectionately called The Lean Machine, he's traded some of his extra padding for a little more agility, but his love of treats and his big personality haven't changed one bit.

He's still a snack enthusiast, a master of dramatic looks, and a devoted partner to Iris, whom he protects fiercely.

Tony was born to live fast, play hard, and keep everyone guessing! Whether he’s turning his habitat upside down or keeping Cindy on her toes, this energetic capuchin always knows how to make life interesting.

Tony may prefer monkey company to people, but he has a huge heart for his favorite girl, Cindy. Their special bond is one of a kind, and we wouldn’t have Tony any other way!
