🖨️Calling all 3D-printing enthusiasts! We need your help!🔬

Sci-Tech Discovery Center is looking for a volunteer with a 3D printer to help us create new pieces for our hands-on exhibits!

We have approximately 20 objects to print, including cargo ships, brain teasers, and new components for our pipe roller coaster exhibit. We’ll provide the TPU filament; we just need someone with the right equipment and a little printing expertise!

Printer requirements:

- Minimum build volume: 260 × 260 × 90 mm
- Ability to switch filament colors mid-print
- Compatible with our provided TPU filament

**What you’ll help create:**
🚢 2 cargo ships
🧩 3–4 brain teasers
🎢 About 12 new pipe roller coaster pieces

Your skills will help us keep our exhibits engaging, interactive, and ready for curious learners of all ages!

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible teachers who inspire curiosity, encourage questions, and help students discover that learning can happen anywhere.

We’re especially proud of our amazing Sci-Tech Education Team, who bring STEAM learning to life every day through hands-on programs in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. From exploring big scientific questions to building, experimenting, problem-solving, and creating, they help students see themselves as scientists, engineers, innovators, and lifelong learners.

🦴 Daily Discovery: Adaptation Investigations!

Last week, our young scientists got to take a closer look at some fascinating pieces of Texas wildlife — real animal skulls!

During Adaptation Investigations, our educators challenged visitors to look at skull shape, jaws, and teeth to uncover clues about how different Texas animals eat, live, and survive. 🔎🐾

The specimens came from the Texas Wildlife Association’s Discovery Trunk program, which provides educators with hands-on wildlife specimens and K-8 lesson plans. We reserve a trunk each semester and use the materials throughout the year for Daily Discoveries, Summer Camps, and special events.

We love finding ways to turn science into something kids can see, touch, investigate, and figure out for themselves!

Sci-Tech is always learning, growing, and sharing! 🔬✨

Last week, two members of our team headed to Phoenix for the ASTC Annual Conference, joining science and technology museums from around the world to learn, connect, and share ideas.

One of our team members also had the opportunity to present at the conference, sharing insights from our work here at Sci-Tech and learning from fellow museum professionals.

We participate in ASTC every year because we believe that great museums never stop learning. Conferences like this give our team the chance to discover new ideas, bring fresh perspectives back to Sci-Tech, and continue finding ways to make the museum an even better place for our guests, staff, and community.

We’re already putting some of those ideas to work!

Join us for ALL ABOUT ANIMALS on Saturday, September 26 from 10 AM–4 PM!

We’re bringing the animal kingdom to Sci-Tech with a full day of hands-on fun and learning!

🔎 Learn about unique animals from around the world
👐 Explore hands-on animal activities
👩‍⚕️ Discover careers working with animals
🐶 Meet local pet adoption organizations
🐾 Meet some adoptable furry and scaly friends

And yes… dogs and cats will be on-site from 10 AM–2 PM! ❤️

The Case of the Missing Exhibit Wheel has been solved.🕵️‍♀️

A little over a year ago, one of our youngest visitors apparently decided that one of our exhibit wheels would make an excellent souvenir and tucked it into his pocket before heading home. 😂

Fast-forward a year, and that same guest brought the wheel back to Sci-Tech!

Honestly, we love this story. Not only did he remember where it came from, but he took the time to return it so another curious kid could enjoy the exhibit. That kind of honesty and thoughtfulness means a lot to us. 💜

And because we know curious little hands sometimes have a mind of their own, we've officially installed a CHECK YOUR POCKETS!” box right by the exit.

Found an exhibit piece in your pocket? No judgment. Just drop it in the box, and we'll get it back where it belongs. 😉
