From Montreal City Voices (my MIL’s chorus and the chorus Lindsay directed before her move to Texas);
Practice and rehearsal are both important — but they are not the same thing.
Practice is where students build their individual skills.
Rehearsal is where those skills come together into something unified, expressive, and musical.
When students come prepared, rehearsal can move beyond “learning the notes” and into the good stuff: blend, balance, timing, phrasing, interpretation, and ensemble listening.
Successful rehearsals don’t begin when everyone walks into the room.
They begin with the individual practice that happens beforehand.
Do your students understand the difference between practice and rehearsal?
