💙 World Mental Health Day | October 10

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we recognize those who struggle with mental health challenges, those who have gone missing or lost their lives as a result of a mental health crisis, and the families and loved ones whose lives have been forever changed.

As a volunteer search team, may we never forget that behind every search are families and friends who love, worry, hope, and grieve. They deserve compassion, understanding, and, above all, answers that may bring them the peace and resolution they need to move forward.

Today marks one year of Blue SAR. 💙

Blue SAR began for a pretty simple reason: we did not want to ever stop doing this work.

I am especially grateful for the mentors who saw the need early on, encouraged me to take this step, and have continued to guide me. Their experience, perspective, counsel, and willingness to challenge, teach, and encourage have mattered more than I can say. We would not be where we are today, without those who took the time to guide us.

To our co-founders, volunteers, donors, supporters, consultants, and followers, thank you for believing in our mission and giving of your time, resources, encouragement, and trust.

To law enforcement, thank you for trusting us to stand beside you when someone is missing and when every minute matters. It is an honor to serve alongside those who carry that responsibility every day.

To our community partners, thank you for opening doors, engaging with us, encouraging us, and helping us build something that truly belongs to the community.

We are incredibly proud of what we have built together in our first year, and even more excited about what lies ahead.

Year One was just the beginning. Here’s to Year Two. Andiamo!

💙

With gratitude,
Angelina

📡 Today was an important step forward for Blue SAR as we officially began training and practicing alongside the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office Project Lifesaver program.

Our team trained through real-life scenarios for the first time, working together to better understand the response process and how we can effectively support Project Lifesaver clients when they are missing.

We look forward to additional training, continued scenario-based practice, and fine-tuning our processes as a team so that, when called upon, we can respond efficiently, effectively, and with the urgency these situations deserve.

Project Lifesaver is about giving families and caregivers an additional layer of protection when a loved one at risk of wandering goes missing and we are honored to serve as a resource.

Thank you to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office for welcoming Blue SAR into the training process. We are proud to work alongside you and look forward to continuing to learn, train, and serve together.

Twenty-five years later, we remember you, we honor you, and we stand with you🇺🇸

We remember the lives lost and the families forever changed. We remember the survivors, the civilians who helped strangers, the first responders who ran toward danger, and every person who answered the call in the days, weeks, months, and years that followed.

We remember the search teams. All those who searched for survivors and, when hope gave way to recovery, continued searching for the missing and the remains of those who never made it home.

We honor those who, because of September 11, chose a life of service by becoming law enforcement officers, firefighters, search and rescue (SAR) personnel, and countless other professions committed to helping people in their darkest moments.

We also remember that service leaves a mark. For many, the mission ended years ago, but the memories, the losses, and the physical and mental effects remain.

To the victims, the families, the survivors, the responders, the searchers, the volunteers, and every person who has carried this day forward through a life of service and remembrance, we stand with you.

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

DID YOU KNOW?

A Bloodhound’s nose is truly something special!

Bloodhounds are often cited as having up to 300 million olfactory receptors, these are the specialized cells that detect odors.

Humans? About 6 million.

That’s one seriously impressive superpower!

But it is not just about having an incredible nose. A Bloodhound’s olfactory system allows them to detect, distinguish, and follow human scent, even through complex environments.

Today, on National Dog Day, we are celebrating the amazing noses, brains, instincts, and hearts of all working dogs who do so much for search and rescue. 💙

🧩 Autism Awareness Stickers Now Available! 💙
The City of Humble is proud to offer Autism Awareness Stickers designed to help improve communication, understanding, and safety during interactions between officers and individuals on the autism spectrum.
Parents and guardians can pick up a sticker and complete an information form with a recent photo and important details about their child. The sticker can be displayed on a family vehicle to help officers recognize that a child with autism may be involved during a traffic stop, may become lost, or may need assistance.
Together, we can build a safer, more understanding community and strengthen the partnership between families and law enforcement. 💙

When we started Blue SAR less than a year ago, we put a LOT of thought into our mission statement. One part was especially important: educating the public on prevention and safety.
There are many search and rescue organizations doing amazing work in the field. But we wanted to do more than respond when someone goes missing. We wanted to help families and caregivers prepare before an emergency happens and know what to do when every second counts. This is especially important for vulnerable populations, including individuals with autism, IDD, dementia, and other cognitive impairments.

Recently, our Executive Director, Angelina Farris, sat down with Jennifer Dantzler of Inspire ND to talk about ways families and caregivers can prepare if a loved one elopes or goes missing. We hope you’ll give it a listen and share it with someone who may benefit.

We’re incredibly grateful to Jennifer, her team, and Inspire ND for giving Blue SAR the opportunity to share these resources with their community.
Education, preparation, and awareness can make a huge difference. If you have questions, want to learn more about Blue SAR, or would like us to speak to your organization or event, reach out anytime at [email protected].

And finally, big shoutout to Angelina. We are so proud of how she continues to lead Blue SAR with a focus on doing good work, doing it the right way, and always doing it for the right reasons.
She absolutely would not want me to say that publicly… but I don’t really care. 😘

🎙️🐾 NEW EPISODE | When Every Second Matters

Today on Shining Through: Inspiring Voices of Autism, Jennifer Dantzler welcomes Angelina Farris of Blue SAR for an important conversation about search and rescue, wandering, and preparedness.

Angelina shares how their specially trained search dog, Skye, can help locate missing and vulnerable individuals—and what families can do before an emergency happens to help search teams when every second matters.

This is one of those conversations you hope you’ll never need—but you’ll be glad you heard. 💙
