As utilities continue to grow and water demand increases, investments and acquisitions such as New Jersey American Water's purchase of Gordon's Corner Water represent an important advancement for the industry.

The acquisition, completed on July 27, allows New Jersey American Water to pave the way for a planned $25 million investment to modernize infrastructure and enhance systems to deliver reliable, high-quality water service to its nearly 15,300 new customers while expanding the company’s workforce by 20 employees.

Delivering reliable, affordable energy to New Jersey homes and businesses, requires innovative solutions that can meet our state’s growing energy needs.

That is why Atlantic City Electric has proposed a 500-megawatt battery energy storage system in Salem County that would be capable of powering nearly 400,000 homes. Unlike traditional power plants, the proposed facility would store excess power that goes unused by charging during periods of low demands and delivering it back when demand is highest, offering a unique way to strengthen our grid reliability and make better use of existing energy sources.

As electricity costs continue to rise across the nation, investments like this can help meet energy demand without adding new generations costs. Instead, these projects can create new union jobs that support New Jersey’s energy future and establish a framework for modern energy systems across the country.

Every day the tens of thousands men and women at our member companies work tirelessly to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable energy to residents and businesses across New Jersey. All too often their efforts go unnoticed by the general public. The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy clearly recognized their work as they listed the state as a national leader in energy efficiency programming and outcomes. New Jersey ranked #8, returning to the top 10 for the first time since 2008 and was listed as one of the most improved States.

In light of that recognition, we would like to extend our congratulations to PSEG, whose energy efficiency programs have generated more than $1 billion in annual customer savings for nearly 525,000 residential and business customers. This milestone represents more than just savings, it reflects the impact of energy efficiency in helping families and businesses lower utility costs while supporting economic growth, creating job opportunities, and advancing sustainability across the state.

As our nation celebrates its 250th Anniversary, NJUA reflected on our history with New Jersey Business Magazine and the role we’ve played in serving our communities from 1915 to 2026.

Founded by Clarence H. Geist, NJUA was created to give New Jersey’s utilities a unified voice and provide a forum for sharing best practices. More than a century later, that mission remains the same by advancing innovative solutions to support more than 38,000 utility professionals who keep New Jersey running.

“The NJUA’s mission has remained mostly unchanged since its inception, focusing on sharing efficiencies and best practices among its member companies. The association plays a crucial role in the state’s utility sector, advocating for policies that promote the interests of their customers and their businesses, and improving efficiency and service through the exchange of ideas and experience among utility companies.”
