In 48 states, there are no required standards for how mold is removed from your home, putting your family at risk for ineffective and unsafe practices.

Only 2 states require mold remediators to follow mold remediation standards such as ANSI/IICRC S520.

That's 8 million people protected.

And 334 million who aren't.

We're working to change that, one state at a time.

Celebrating some incredible news and it starts with a thank you.

CT HB 5222 is now law in Connecticut. What does that mean for the people of Connecticut?

๐ŸŸขMold remediation contractors must be certified.

๐ŸŸขThe ANSI/IICRC S520 standard of care is now enforceable statewide.

๐ŸŸขFamilies dealing with mold and water damage have protections they didn't have before.

That didn't happen because of us. It happened because of the people who funded this work, showed up as volunteers, shared their stories, and refused to accept that nothing would ever change.

Change the Air Foundation is proud to have played a role. But the credit belongs to the community that made it possible.

This is our second state bill since 2022. The momentum is real and it's because of you.

How about you? Will you join our celebration by tagging someone who needs to know about this?

Mold-related illness may not look the same at every age.

In children, whose nervous systems are still developing, it may show up as tics, ADD, ADHD and heightened sensitivities and reactivities.

In adults it may look more like chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia while in older adults, the nervous system is again the target, with patterns that can mirror Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS.

Thatโ€™s one of the challenges in helping people get the right diagnosis. Same root cause but often completely different symptoms depending on where you are in life.

What symptoms have you or your family experienced that you later connected to mold or water damage?

Be sure to watch this enlightening interview with Dr. Neil Nathan to learn more. ๐Ÿ”— Link in comments.

Are mold, Lyme, long-COVID, and mast cell activation connected?

They're not the same condition, but by different mechanisms they can all trigger the same thing: global inflammation that goes straight to your weakest link. Previous injury to your joints, your lungs, your gut? That's where it shows up.

๐Ÿ‘‡ What's been your biggest challenge navigating any of these? Let us know in the comments.

Be sure to watch or listen to the full interview with Dr. Neil Nathan. Link in comments.

Do you know the difference between sensitivity and toxicity?๐Ÿค”

Sensitivity is when the body becomes increasingly reactive to light, sound, touch, smell, taste, EMFs and food.

Toxicity is the reaction to toxins in the environment, mold, glyphosate and thousands of others we're exposed to daily.

They can look the same. But it's usually toxicity that causes sensitivity, and knowing which one you're dealing with changes how you approach healing.

๐Ÿ‘‡ Tell us: what are you reacting to since being exposed to mold? Light? Sound? Food? Chemicals? EMFs? Drop it in the comments.

Watch the full interview with Dr. Neil Nathan for the complete breakdown. (Link in comments)

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Because of donors like you, change is happening and last week, we took it straight to Capitol Hill.

Your generosity put our team in front of nearly 20 House and Senate offices on the Armed Services Committee over three days. Every meeting we took was made possible by your support. One mission: pass the MOLD Act.

Walking those halls of Congress, pushing for the MOLD Act's inclusion in this year's National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), we carried your investment with us every step of the way.

Because of the momentum you have helped us build, we are now able to have conversations that go beyond military housing. Mold and water damage are widespread public health and housing issues impacting civilians across the country. ๐Ÿ  The relationships your support is helping us grow are laying the groundwork for healthy housing protections for families everywhere, military and civilian alike.

Your support also means that even when life makes it hard to show up, we find a way. Joining Brandon virtually by iPad was Erica Thompson, our Military Families Liaison, whose son is currently dealing with health issues tied to mold exposure from their privatized military home. Together, we made sure her voice was in every room virtually. You could feel the weight of her absence in the offices we met with and it mattered. ๐Ÿ’™

Because of the momentum you have helped us create, organizations like the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) are now standing alongside us. A united, growing coalition and you helped build it. ๐Ÿค

If you have ever wondered whether your contribution makes a difference, Brandon Chappo walking those halls last week is your answer.

None of this happens without you. Thank you for fighting alongside us for healthier homes and stronger protections for those who serve. We are not done. Stay tuned as we continue pushing for the MOLD Act in this year's NDAA. ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ  "If Iโ€™m looking for a mold-safe home, what age home should I buy?" - Hannah, OH

In this episode of Ask Change the Air, Jessica McQuade explains why the answer isnโ€™t so simple and why a homeโ€™s history, past water damage, maintenance, and overall condition matter far more than the year it was built.

She also shares some of the biggest things buyers often overlook when evaluating a home through the lens of mold and indoor air quality.
