As usual, we have a lot on our plates as we head into summer. First up will be “First Friday in Franklinton”. We will have a tent up to greet everyone who stops by. Next up, we will gather the Memorial Day flags from the cemeteries on Saturday, June 6, starting at 9 am in Fairview Cemetery.
Many of our members will be at the state convention being held in Raleigh from the 11th through the 13th. We have 5 delegates who will be voting for our next Commander and other state officers.
With Flag Day being this month, we will hold our flag retirement ceremony on Tuesday, June 16, at 6:00 pm, at the Post. So be sure to drop off any worn flags before that date.
There will be a Veterans Health and Resource Fair at the Louisburg Senior Center and VSO office. Veterans, please plan to attend.
Please review the “Upcoming Events” for everything happening through the end of July.

I am humbled, grateful, and honored to have received your votes and confirmation as your next Commander. As you may notice from my gray and white hair, I am likely one of the oldest Post 52 Commanders in recent years. I pledge to give my very best to our Post family—but I will need the support and...

At our last meeting in April, we held the election of officers for the 2026-2027 year. Installation will occur at our May meeting.
This month, we have Memorial Day events, including placing flags on veterans' graves. We will meet at Fairview Cemetery on Saturday, May 23, at 9 a.m., and then proceed to other nearby cemeteries.
On Sunday, May 24, at 2 p.m., we will hold our Memorial Day Ceremony at the Franklinton Veterans Memorial Park and dedicate the park's Battlefield Cross.
Looking at our schedule of events, you may notice an entry called Pint Night. Pint Night is a time set aside for veterans to gather in good fellowship and support one another. We have it scheduled for the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. This event is for members and non-member veterans alike. Feel free to bring a friend, your spouse, or your significant other. Alcohol consumption is not required.

Congratulations to our new slate of Officers recently elected for the 2026-2027 service year. Your Commander Elect is Legionnaire George Miller. I am 100% confident that George and this experienced group of officers will continue to lead Post 52 with energy, integrity, and growth. This column will b...

We have been very busy this past month, and it looks like it is not letting up. Our 107th birthday celebration and awards banquet is behind us. There are links in the newsletter to our award winners and pictures from that night. Enjoy the picture and make plans to join us next March for our 108th birthday.
Good Friday is on April 3rd, and we will hold our Fish Fry from 11 am until 6 pm that day. Please make plans to join us. The Auxiliary will be holding its Bake Sale that same day, so grab a little dessert to go with your fish. Also, they will be starting a quilt raffle on that date. Tickets will be just $10 each with the drawing scheduled for July 16th. The quilt will be on display at the bake sale.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 28th, at 6 pm. We will be voting on our slate of officers for the 2026-27 year. Our District 5 meeting has moved to May 2nd at Post 90 in Oxford. We will be electing District Officers at that meeting.
Looking forward to May, please mark your calendars for the 23rd, 24th, and 26th. Check the newsletter calendar to see what's happening.
Veterans and members of the Franklinton Post 52, please help make our Post a better place. Lend your talents to one of our 7 standing committees. They are Membership, Finance, Americanism, Facility and Grounds, Fundraising, Food Service, and Memorial Brick Committees. It's only through your time, talents, and unique skills that we can make a difference in our Post and our community.

Spring is upon us. We are now officially camouflaged in lime green pollen. This pollen is a perfect reminder telling me that we are in the busiest "season" of Legion activities. I am proud that Post 52 has a history of being very active with Legion programs and serving our community. We are not idle...

Did you know that The American Legion turns 107 years old this month? Well, it’s true, and to celebrate, we hold a birthday party and an awards banquet where we recognize our first responders, community service organizations, and an individual. In addition to the community, we also celebrate an individual member of both the Post and the Auxiliary who has rendered outstanding service to our organization. The banquet will be held on Sunday, March 22, at 6 pm, at Post 52. Please come out and show your support.
Our next Fundraiser will be our Fish Fry on Good Friday. See details in the newsletter.

After the disruption caused by ice and snow in late January and early February, we held a great membership meeting on February 28, with over 40 Legionnaires in attendance! We thank Beverly Kegley for her heartfelt presentation commemorating her Dad's Congressional Gold Medal as a US Army Ranger in W...

First, I hope everyone stays warm and safe during all of this icy weather. Please call your buddies to check in and make sure they are doing okay. Reach out to us if you need assistance.
Thank you all for your support of our Brunswick Stew fundraiser. We made and sold over 280 quarts of stew.
We canceled January's meeting due to the weather forecast; it's better to err on the side of caution. Please make every effort to join us for breakfast on February 28th. We have a guest speaker for this meeting. (See newsletter for details.)

Can you believe it is already February! Only eleven more months to go to 2027! You may say it is too soon for me to be looking that far ahead, but I tell you that it really isn't. To be a better Post, we must always be looking forward. Your Post Executive Committee (PEC) is always looking two months...
