On March 6, 2026, around 2:20 pm, a deputy who was stopped at a gas station on Jones Sausage Road near Integrity Drive assisted with a subject trespassing at that location.

When the deputy attempted to arrest the adult male, he resisted. During the encounter, the deputy deployed pepper spray. The suspect then entered a vehicle and backed it into the deputy, striking him.

The deputy was transported to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries.

We thank residents for their patience, as there was a large law enforcement presence on Jones Sausage Road. The Raleigh Police Department is investigating the car crash that occurred during this incident.

This is an ongoing investigation, and there is no additional information at this time.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved friend, family member, and K-9 partner of Sergeant Deputy Roy Wilbourne.

Gracie was more than just a staple of the Wake County Sheriff's Office, but a standard of excellence and discipline for Human and Canine L.E.O. alike.

Gracie was responsible for narcotics seizures estimated in the hundreds of millions in US currency across over a decade of service. Apart from her criminal justice impact, she served our county by participating in community demonstrations and other special events.

The legacy she leaves behind remains forever as a testament to our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. We are forever grateful for the opportunity to love her the way that she loved serving her community, the citizens of Wake County.

This GoFundMe was created by Troop C of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol to support the family of Master Trooper Steven J. Perry, who was tragically killed in the line of duty. Trooper Perry died in a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver while protecting motorists in Durham County, leaving behind his loved ones and service family.

The funds raised will help the Perry family navigate life without him, including immediate expenses and longer-term financial needs. Most importantly, the fundraiser acknowledges that Trooper Perry was a devoted father — he leaves behind a daughter who now faces life without her dad’s love and support. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Troop C established this fundraiser as a way for the community, fellow officers, and supporters to show tangible support and care for his family during this incredibly difficult time.

Member Line of Duty Death: Master Trooper Steven J. Perry

Dear Patrol Family,

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of one of our own. Master Trooper Steven J. Perry has passed away from an on-duty traffic collision while working in Durham County. Initial indications are that early this morning he was struck head-on by a wrong-way driver while traveling on NC-147. The other involved driver is also deceased from the traffic collision.

Trooper Perry was a member of the 148th Basic Patrol School and has served Durham County throughout his nearly 7-year career. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and fellow troopers who had the privilege of serving alongside him. We ask that you keep the entirety of his family and our Patrol Family in your thoughts.

We would like to thank the Durham County Emergency Medical Services, Durham Fire Department, Durham Police Department and the North Carolina Department of Transportation IMAP Division for their extensive assistance at the scene of this crash.

As further details become available and as a celebration of life service is planned, we will ensure that details are shared.

Please stay safe, take care of one another and keep the family in your prayers.

Warmest Regards,
Colonel Freddy Johnson Jr.

Officer Pierce leaves behind a wife and five children after suffering a medical emergency at home. Please consider donating to the campaign link hosted by the Greensboro Police Foundation as well as keeping his family, both blood and blue, in your prayers 🙏🏻

We are devastated to announce the unexpected passing of one of our own.

Officer Lucas Pierce, 44, died Tuesday night at his home after experiencing a medical emergency. Please keep his wife and their five children in your prayers during this difficult time. We want to ensure the family has the support, and the appropriate privacy, they need to grieve this tremendous loss.

Officer Pierce joined the Greensboro Police Department in March of 2009 and was a graduate of our 90th Police Academy. He served as a Community Resource Officer in District 4, a role he held since July 2019. He also served District 4 on the Community Resource Team (CRT) between 2013 and 2019, and as a patrol officer prior to that.

He was promoted in 2012 to Police Officer II, and in 2017 to Police Officer III. He earned GPD’s Superior Service Bar and Certificate of Merit in addition to other accolades throughout his career. He also served on the Crisis Intervention Team and was LEBA (Law Enforcement Bicycle Association) certified.

Officer Pierce was much loved, respected and appreciated by those who knew him and by those who had the honor to work alongside him in service to our community. He will be deeply missed by many and leaves a legacy of service which will always be remembered.

Information about services is not available at this time.
