Here is a traveler tip for a perfect summer evening. Spend it in Franklin.

Start with a walk down Main Street while the light is still golden. The oaks, the lampposts, the historic storefronts, more than four hundred homes that have been standing since before the Civil War. Franklin wears its history well, and it is the kind of place that invites you to slow down and look up.

Pass the marquee of the historic Teche Theatre, browse the shops, and find a table for dinner downtown. No rush and no crowds, just a warm Louisiana evening in one of the prettiest Main Street districts in the state.
