"I’m here to share my story not as a victim of domestic violence but as a survivor."

When Blanca experienced an extremely traumatic incident at the hands of her ex-fiancé, in front of her sons, she knew she had to escape and find help.

"I knew I needed long-term legal protection. I reached out to MJM for help. My attorney was so knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and very helpful throughout the whole process. During our court date, she presented my case to the judge, and he granted a 10-year protective order against my abuser. I felt instant relief, something I will never forget. I can’t thank the whole MJM staff enough for assisting me. MJM was a blessing to me and my family."

Survivors are finding us in new ways—and we’re paying attention.

Our Intake Specialist has noticed a meaningful shift: more people are finding our services online, not just through traditional referral sources.

That tells us something important. Survivors are searching for help when they’re ready, often turning to the internet as a first step toward understanding their options.

Our team is committed to meeting survivors where they are—whether they find us through a trusted partner, a referral, or a simple online search.

Because finding help shouldn’t depend on knowing where to look.

We’ll continue working to make MJM easier to find, easier to understand, and easier to reach for survivors and families who need legal advocacy and support.

Domestic violence doesn’t always begin with physical violence—but physical abuse is often part of a larger pattern of control. Hitting, pushing, choking, restraining, or using a weapon are clear forms of physical abuse. Survivors may also experience threats, intimidation, isolation, financial control, or abuse involving their children alongside the physical violence.

Recognizing the signs can be an important first step toward getting help.

If you’re concerned about someone you love, believe them, listen without judgment, and help connect them with trusted resources.

Did you know the average family law case at Methodist Justice Ministry represents an investment of approximately $4,000?

That includes legal representation and other case-related expenses needed to see a case through to resolution. Our clients never receive that bill.

Your support ensures that, regardless of the length or complexity of a case, survivors are not forced to choose between pursuing legal protection and meeting their family’s basic needs.

And our work extends beyond the courtroom. Every dollar raised is thoughtfully stewarded to prioritize client needs and help families build greater long-term stability.

Justice shouldn’t depend on income.

MJM provides free legal services to survivors of family violence and protective caregivers for abused or neglected children who meet our eligibility guidelines, including households earning up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
