Week one of iCan Shine bike camp is complete and DSPNT was able to sponsor 10 riders to attend the camp hosted by Cook Children's. We never get tired of seeing the sense of pride and accomplishment as a result of hard work and determination! Bike camp doesn't just teach participants how to ride, but it teaches independence, health and wellness, and opportunities for inclusion!

We are starting our second semester of Friday Frogs, a new grant-funded program developed in collaboration with the TCU Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences. Friday Frogs is a six-session, in-person program held on Fridays from 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. on the TCU campus, designed for adults with Down syndrome ages 18 and older. The program serves 12 participants and runs Sept. 11, Sept. 18, Oct. 2, Oct 9, Oct 23, Oct 30.

Built by occupational therapists, Friday Frogs uses person-centered planning, goal setting, and pre/post assessments, with a 1:3 instructor-to-participant ratio and near-peer mentorship. The curriculum focuses on independent living skills, job and academic readiness, self-advocacy, and social participation, using universal design and embedded accessibility supports.
Parents and caregivers interested in having someone participate, must attend a mandatory Zoom session on Thursday, July 9th at 7PM in order to continue in the application process. You can RSVP at https://pro.gofundme.com/event/2026-teen-and-adult-events/e749970.
This session is for individuals who did not attend the Spring session.

Today is Whitney's last day with DSPNT as she will start a new job closer to her home. But don't worry - we celebrated her BIG and she and her husband will still be around as volunteers as often as possible!
We also welcomed two, NEW staff members! Elissa has been working under Whitney to learn all things programs and has already started planning programs for fall and beyond! Elissa comes to us from Big Brothers and Sisters in Denver where she planned in-school programs for that organization.
Blake is a father of three, one of whom happens to have Down syndrome, and is a former teacher. He will be supporting programs and new parent outreach.
We will truly miss Whitney, but we are beyond excited to have Elissa and Blake on board!
