TSA MILITARY HONOR LANES & DEPENDENT
RULES
A Comprehensive Guide for Service Members, Veterans, Dependents, and Surviving Spouses
Program Overview
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Honor Lane program provides streamlined, front-of-the-line,
or dedicated security checkpoint access to expedite screening for the military community. This benefit is
available to active duty personnel, national guard/reserves, veterans, and eligible family members.
Rules for Dependents (Spouses & Children)
Traveling WITH the Service Member / Veteran:
• Spouses and dependent children are fully permitted to accompany the qualifying service member or veteran
through the TSA Military Lane or front-of-the-line screening process.
• Children under the age of 18 do not strictly require a military ID if they are traveling directly with an eligible
parent who has valid credentials.
Traveling WITHOUT the Service Member / Veteran:
• Spouses and dependents aged 10 and older must present their own valid DoD Uniformed Services ID
Card (USID) to access the preferred lanes independently.
• Front-of-the-line privileges are at the discretion of individual airport lane monitors when the primary sponsor
is not present, so carrying valid USID credentials is mandatory.
Rules for Surviving Spouses & Gold Star Families
• Full Eligibility: Surviving spouses and family members retain access to military preferred checkpoint
screening privileges.
• Required Identification: Surviving spouses must present a valid DoD Uniformed Services ID Card (such
as the DD Form 1173 or the updated next-generation USID card indicating survivor status).
• Gold Star Families: Gold Star family members carrying appropriate identification or traveling on dedicated
commemorative flights receive full priority screening privileges.
Accepted Identification Summary
• Active Duty/Reserve: Common Access Card (CAC).
• Veterans: Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) or State-issued Driver's License/ID with a Veteran
designation.
• Dependents & Survivors: DoD Uniformed Services ID Card (USID).
Important Notice on TSA PreCheck
The Honor Lane speeds up access to the front of the security line but does not automatically grant TSA
PreCheck expedited screening (where shoes and light jackets stay on). Active-duty service members can
receive free TSA PreCheck by entering their 10-digit DoD ID number as the Known Traveler Number (KTN)
when booking flights. Eligible dependents and surviving spouses must enroll in TSA PreCheck independently if
they wish to use PreCheck lanes.

We’ve been quiet, but we’re still here.

2025 has been a year that required space, grief, and recalibration.
Our last post marked a heartbreaking moment, and since then, life has asked for time and care.

Even in the quiet, the heart behind Local Wounded Veteran has never left.

I’m continuing to support our local wounded veterans and I will never forget why they have done not only to my family but so many others and stepping in to help bring this page back to life — thoughtfully and with intention.

New resources, updated information, and a few new ideas are ahead.
