Volunteers Needed!

🌴 2nd Annual Johns Island Community Cleanup

Adopt A Highway is teaming up with Keep Charleston Beautiful, the Charleston Police Department, and local community members for another fun filled Johns Island cleanup (You don’t have to live on Johns Island to participate) ❤️

Litter doesn’t stay in one place. Whether it’s on a roadside, in a parking lot, or along our waterways, it can eventually make its way into our creeks, rivers, and ocean. Keeping our community clean is also one small but important way we can protect the marine environment we all love.

So, if you’re free, come join us! Bring a friend or bring the family. Every set of hands makes a difference.

On September 20th, 2026, join Charleston Waterkeeper, Charleston Surfrider, and Charleston Bird Club on the hunt for plastic pellets!

We’ve been tracking the pellet problem around the Charleston harbor estuary since 2019, and yet despite holding one polluter accountable, the problem persists. We need your help generating data that helps us to identify who is responsible for the continued pollution.

Plastic pellets, also known as nurdles, are typically less than 5 mm in size, and they’re the raw material that’s used to make familiar plastic products like water bottles, grocery bags and polystyrene foam. These tiny plastics are frequently spilled, leaked or dumped into the environment, especially our waterways, during manufacturing and transport. As a result, they frequently wash up on riverbanks, lakeshores and beaches.

Let the hunt begin!

IT’S BACK! We have another B&B for you to add to your calendar Aug 30th at 7:30 am 🪺 we’re taking the series to Folly Beach Lighthouse with Charleston Bird Club and Camino Caffeino ! Join us at the enterance of the graffiti walkway leading to the Lighhouse, 7:30 - 8:30 for some coffee and conversation before our walk! Don’t forget to bring a reusable cup for free coffee!
